Making Green Energy A Priority

Making Green Energy A Priority Many individuals understand the importance of green energy, but they are not sure how to begin incorporating it into their lives. This article is filled with helpful, simple information to get you started on the path to living a greener life.

Many people wash off their plates prior to loading the dishwasher. Particularly if you have a newer, well-made appliance, this step is unnecessary. It wastes water and it takes you longer to clean up after your meal. Simply scrape any remaining bits of food off into the trashcan and place the plate directly in the dishwasher. While this doesn't seem like much, it will save quite a few gallons of water.

Consider skipping the use of the dryer. Many people are a little nervous about taking this step initially, especially those that do love the way their clothes smell and feel. Purchase a drying rack or just a clothesline. When your clothes come out of the washer, take them directly outside to dry. While this will require a little pre-planning on your part (you do not want to do your laundry when it is pouring down rain outside), the extra effort will help you save on your energy bill and even on how much you spend on clothing each year. When you stop putting your clothes in the dryer, they will last longer.

While you may find a bath relaxing, try to switch to showers instead. The amount of water that you use in the shower is about 50 percent less than what you would use in the bath. If taking a bath is truly something you enjoy, try to limit how often you do it. If you currently take three baths a week, try to cut it down to just one. You will still save some water, and you won't be completely giving up something that you love doing.

When you do shower, time yourself. See how long a normal shower lasts for you and then make an effort to reduce that time. Even cutting a minute or two off of your routine makes a huge difference; it is the equivalent of five gallons of water. If you take particularly long showers, try to trim off five minutes or more from your normal time. However, if you already shower fairly quickly, look to shave just a minute or two off of your bathing time.

Sign up for paperless billing. Most people have access to the Internet and find it more convenient to pay their bills online anyway. Rather than getting a paper statement that you simply throw away, just view your bill online. If more homes took this step, millions of trees could avoid being cut down every

year.

It is possible to go green in a variety of different ways. Take what you have learned here, and think about which options make the most sense for you and your lifestyle.
