How To Start Your Garden Plants From Seed Planting a garden from seed is probably the most common way to do it. Educate yourself about the types of soil and location you need to grow the plants you have chosen. Plant the seed according to the directions and watch with anticipation as the seedlings poke their head through the soil. This article provides information about the best way to plant your garden.

Consider the location of your garden and the soil type. If your garden is shaded for part of the day or if it gets full sun all day, look for plants that do well in the conditions they will be planted in. Your garden area may have both sun and shade depending on the time of day and buildings which may provide afternoon or morning shade.

Measure the area of your garden, and plan how much space you want to devote to each type of plant. Make sure you allow enough space between the rows to walk and possibly push a wheelbarrow. You want your garden to look well organized and attractive, as well as provide vegetables for your family to enjoy.

Some people like to plant flowers in or near their vegetable gardens. Some flowers are beneficial to other plants by repelling pests or attracting bees to pollinate other plants. Your garden can be a lovely addition to your yard if you choose an attractive layout and color palette.

If you want to have shrubs growing near your garden area, think about what effect they will have on the landscape during each season. A backdrop of lilac bushes provides beautiful flowers in the spring, as well as a lovely fragrance. In the summer months they have only green foliage and in winter they are bare branches, but may provide a windbreak shelter for your yard.

Some seeds should be started indoors so they can begin producing earlier in the summer. Tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers should be well started by the time it is warm enough to set them out. The general rule of thumb is to start seeds about six weeks before the last danger of frost in your area.

Young plants can look very similar, so it is a good idea to label the container they are planted in. You

may want to plant more than one type of tomato and it is important to know which is which when it is time to plant them in the garden.

Once it is time to transplant your seedlings, start setting them outdoors for a few hours during the day. Do not put them in strong sunlight and be careful the wind is not blowing on them. Bring them in before it cools off in the evening, and after a few days you can transplant them. You may want to cover them with cut off milk jugs at night for about a week to help them adjust to the cooler temperatures.

It is best to transplant your seedlings on a cloudy day or in the evening when the sun is not hot. Water the hole you dig for them before setting them in it. Firm the soil firmly but gently and water them again.

If you are careful to follow the directions in this article, most of your young plants will do well. Your reward comes from a beautiful healthy garden and fresh vegetables you have created with your hard work. For more information click here
