ABOUT THE ARTIST
There are artists and there are masters; Richard MacDonald will go down in the history of sculpture as Picasso did painting, as an unequivocal master of the art. Only a number of people can master craftsmanship, far fewer, the art of the human form. Influenced by the expressiveness in the figures of Renaissance Master Donatello, the emotional intensity of works by 19th Century French sculptor Auguste Rodin, and the power of Michelangelo’s sculptures, MacDonald’s inspirational, sensitive works are precisely of the moment, yet profoundly historic by reference.

Cloaked in the mysterious allure of twilight, an entrancing figure glides across a crescent moon.
Poised between the spheres of the future and the past, Nightfall Atelier embodies the ethereal power of the present moment. The sensuous flow of the drapery and her half-hidden gaze embody a sense of magical possibilities.
Bronze, 16 x 9 x 8"

ORIGINS, ATELIER
A primal longing to be united and escape our singularity, Origins embodies two figures unified as one, and goes to the very heart of our basic human desire. In the bond between man and woman there is a universal sense that two can become one, in mind, body, and spirit, and this connection is the ultimate expression of opposites forming a union that is perfect and complete. Bronze, 19 x 7 x 7"

Brought together with all the force of nature: to form an almost heart shaped negative space that serves to only heighten our sense of their unity. Dance to Paradiso is all the drama of romantic love - a celebration of energy and passion. Bronze, 13.5 x 17 x 7"

ANATOMY OF GOLF, ATELIER COLLECTION
Inspired by the creation of his heroic sculpture, MOMENTUM, which marked the 100th Anniversary of the US Open, Richard MacDonald follows through with a series of Golf Ateliers. This collection offers five individual golfers, and two multiple figure versions depicting the golf swing. All display the grace, discipline and power of the perfect swing. These sculptures celebrate the athleticism and focus required to triumph in one of the most challenging sports of our time.

Each golf position, I-V is available as an individual sculpture, or part of a plinth showcasing the swing positions I-IV-V, or positions I-V as shown here. Bronze, 10 x 21.75 x 4.75"

In Doves, we see the combination of both: the softness and delicacy of the female and the strength and power of the male. In this work MacDonald employs effective use of the Baroque Spiral to achieve wonderful movement the piece seems to ethereally take flight creating a passionate image of love and devotion. Originally inspired by the Bolshois performance entitled The Doves', MacDonald's interpretation brings classical ballet into heartened focus. Bronze, 17.75 x 12 x 12"

Each figure is captured with a positive spirit, an incredible energy and emotional exuberance, while conjuring up the true essence of the joy of life. The light-hearted innocence and charm of Piper combines with the gentle call to attention by Trumpeter. The Flutist combines perfectly MacDonald’s most cherished themes of mime, music and dance. Together, they compel us to notice feminine beauty and grace everywhere, and revel in the joy of life. Joie de Vivre suite’s message is that we should seize our own definition of the “Joy of Life” and live it. Each figure also available individually. Bronze, 18 x 10.75 x 11.5

Diana Earth Moon is the result of the artist's quest for the idealized feminine form. The myth of Diana as goddess is well integrated into the sculpture. We witness the strength and power of the feminine personality in the figure as she stands on the Earth and holds the moon, her symbol, above her head. Diana is at the same time grace and power - physically seductive and emotionally ethereal - solid as the earth and as mysterious as the moon.
Bronze, 20.5 x 7 x 7”

Blind Faith presents the perfectly defined body of a consummate athlete and performer, blindfolded, balanced on an impossible surface, keeping several balls moving in a fluid arc through the air around him. He is the ultimate representation of confidence, faith, skill, and daring. As a metaphor for the uncertainties of life, and a vivid depiction of the poise and grace required to triumph over any challenge, Blind Faith carries a universal message: one that has resonated strongly with people from all walks of life. Bronze, 19.75 x 6 x 9”

Duality represents a principle that is fundamental to art from all time periods and cultures—it is the timeless paradox that opposites exist in harmony and interdependence with one another. Light and dark, day and night, male and female: each principle is defined by its opposite, and when the two are seen in balance a state of harmony is achieved: we perceive a oneness that is transcendent. Bronze, 17.75 x 8.5 x 7”

The flowing and soft form of the female figure is a counterpoint to the tension in the male form, and the two are entwined in a way that calls to mind the links of a chain: two entities becoming one in balance and harmony. From opposite ends of the spectrum the two figures are bound together by their differences and achieve a harmony and balance together that would not be possible independently.
Bronze, 24 x 7 x 7”

“I BELIEVE THAT BEAUTY CONNECTS PEOPLE AND LIFTS THEIR SPIRITS TO A HIGHER LEVEL.”

RICHARD MACDONALD

THE MARBLE RESIN COLLECTION
In working his way through the Louvre, The Vatican and other historic art museums, Richard MacDonald is particularly engaged by the ancient pieces and the fragments that remain of them. His eye trains not so much on the preservation or the privation of this artistry but on the beauty of the pieces, which have become art forms in and of themselves. “I am looking at an ancient form and yet, as I see it, it’s very contemporary. This has made me curious—what an important element for an artist—and fascinated with these forms and shapes as they are.”
As MacDonald has discovered in "Joy Fragment Study", a fallen sculpture can either shatter perspective or reveal the essence of an image

Inspired by a continuing appreciation of dance, Richard MacDonald encountered a uniquely beautiful, exceptionally tall ballerina possessed of the elegance of a gazelle and the face of a muse. MacDonald witnessed her dancing while creating many drawings of the elements of her presence: the result is a very classic bust, whose arms stretch back like the wings of an angel to capture the elegance of her long, graceful lines.

Katherine Bust, Marble Resin, Atelier is cast using marble resin to manifest her soft beauty and draws on Richard MacDonald's unique sensitivity to the experience of the dancer. This bust of a young ballerina has considerable substance--a presence that immediately draws us in.
The sculpture is also available in cast terracotta resins.
