BUSINESSATTTIRE Various levels of the formality of business attire are expected and the norm for different workplaces or events. The dress codes range from traditional and formal to smart casual, business casual, and casual. (1) If you want to fit well in a MUN conference, wear the clothing that is expected: the formal western business attire.

On the following pages, you will find a guide through the world of proper dress and suit for men and women at Model UN conferences.

1.BASICRULES MEN -

Full dark suit with matching jacket and pants (no double-breasted jackets) Belt matching exact color of shoes Pressed, collared shirt with plain pattern (solid, stripe, or simple pattern) Tie - the colors match the suit Dark leather dress shoes and dark dress socks No cologne No visible tattoos or piercings No long beards Light briefcase that matches shoes and belt or portfolio case (2)

WOMEN -

Dark skirt or pant suit - neutral colors (dark gray, navy, brown) as long as top and bottom are matching Skirts should be a little below the knee or immediately above the knee (knee-high) Pressed, collared button-down shirt Nude (skin-tone) tights and closed-toe heels Dress shoes (pumps, heels) ? No platforms, no heels above 6 cm Make-up should be minimal and conservative No visible tattoos Pale color nail polish; no perfume or body sprays Long hair should be pulled back away from face (3)

2. MEN a) Colors Jacket and pants -

-

Colors must match Dark colours. At Model UN: light grey is tolerated as well Navy blue recommend. Other possibilities: Dark blue, anthracite, dark grey. Black is usually a No-Go for business attire, but tolerated at Model UN No-go: Brown, beige, light colours and missmatching jacket and pants

Shirt -

White or light blue recommended Only light colours, combining with the colour of the suit and the tie

Shoes -

Dark brown or black Oxford style Matching belt in same color

Socks -

Dark brown, black, or dark grey No pattern Long socks - the legs should always be covered

b) The tie The bottom of the tie should reach the top of the belt buckle; a tie should never be too long or too short. Geometric, diagonal stripe, small to medium dotted, or solid tie are recomended.

The knot -

No bow ties allowed Kent collar : Simple knot or simple windsor knot required Shark collar: Double windsor

c) Length and fit Shirt: The length of the shirtsleeves should be one centimeter longer than the jacket's sleeves

Pants: The pants should fall a little on the shoes, but never cover the shoelaces

Jacket: The jacket's sleeves should go to the knuckles when arms are outstretched

d) Jewelry and accessories -

Wedding bands & watch are a maximum Watches should be conservative, not flashy No earrings or bracelets Vests, cuff links, and ties should match the rest of your outfit No cologne, no piercings and no visible tattoos Light briefcase Simple folded, white handkerchief is allowed

a) Pant suit -

The jacket must always match the pants Color: navy, charcoal gray and black Only discreet prints

Shirt -

Long sleeve shirts are more professional than short sleeve Tops can be button ups, turtle necks, elegant shell tops, or fashion blouses Keep colors neutral No transparent fabrics No low-cut tops or shirts

b) Dress and skirt suit -

-

Should be a modest length, no shorter than 5 cm above the knee in standing position The skirt should still cover your thighs when sitting Make sure the skirt is appropriate for walking, climbing stairs and sitting Dress and skirt color matching the jacket No colorful, printed dresses, colors the same as for pant suits

c) Shoes -

Must be clean and polished Dark colors Wear comfortable ones Heels should be about 6 cm Toes should never be visible Closed shoes are not acceptable Stockings and tights should have the same color as your legs Tights are necessary if you wear a dress or a skirt, it is unprofessional to expose skin The fabric of the tights should not be shiny

d) Accessories -

Small earrings, a modest necklace, and few rings (if discreet) are acceptable No dangling earrings, loud and noisy necklaces, or rings on every finger Keep the ring count down to one per hand Broaches are acceptable Handbags should match your outfit, as well as belts Scarves (if necessary) are acceptable as long as they are thin and of a light fabric Religious clothing is of course compatible with business attire

e) Hair and Make-up -

Make-up should be minimal and conservative (daytime makeup) No visible tattoos pale color nail polish no perfume or body sprays Long hair should be pulled back away from face
