plaques, but that didn’t stop vandals snapping the trees, leaving just a stump. Mr O’Connell’s widow, Mary told Yate and Sodbury Voice: “It’s horrible to damage any tree, but a memorial tree, and to damage my husband’s tree especially coming up to his anniversary, it’s very upsetting.”
The club’s vice-president, Jeff Harper has vowed to replace the trees and is calling for the perpetrators to be brought to justice. He said: “If the trees didn’t have a commemorative plaque on them, I’d say oh well, but there’s a plaque fully visible and so they should be punished for this.” Full story, page 8
