Sports complex revamp faces delays WORK on the refurbishment of the Yate Outdoor Sports Complex (YOSC) has been postponed because of delays and problems replacing the red top of the athletics track. The work was due to be done in September, but when the original red top was removed, serious problems were found with the surface underneath. It has taken extra time to sort these out and now the next step has had to be postponed because of the onset of winter. Replacing the red top can only be done in frost free conditions, and consistent temperatures of 15 degrees or over for four weeks. If dry weather holds, it may be possible to install the final surface on the vault and the long and triple jump, before work goes on hold until next year. Town Clerk, Hayley Townsend, said: “Everyone involved is extremely disappointed that the timeline has overrun but this was due to an unforeseeable serious technical problem. However we are delighted with how the project has taken shape so far and are working with the contractor, and with YOSC Ltd, to enable use of the facilities over the winter, despite them not yet being finished to the final spec standard.”
