Minor Injuries Unit adds staff to cope with spike in demand A big increase in people using Yate’s Minor Injuries Unit has prompted managers to add extra staff. Demand for services at the unit rose by over a fifth in April and May, putting extra pressure on the already popular unit. Now Sirona, which runs the MIU has added an extra triage nurse on Mondays which is traditionally a busy time for the unit after the weekend. The Emergency Care Practitioner will help take the pressure off the existing staff. The new recruit will be in addition to the triage nurse which Sirona aims to have on duty whenever the unit is open. The move has been welcomed by the local Liberal Democrat councillors, who have been campaigning for more resources for the Minor Injuries Department. More, page 5
