Town council objects to adult gaming centre in Yate CONCERNS over the siting of an adult gaming centre in Yate have seen town councillors oppose the application. As previously reported by Yate and Sodbury Voice, a plan has been submitted to open the centre in Yate Shopping Centre’s North Walk. It will be fitted out with gaming machines but Yate Town Council has lodged a formal objection because it fears vulnerable people could be drawn to gambling if the business is established. It has pointed to the closeness of both the town’s youth cafe at the Armadillo building and a residential home for people with learning and other disabilities, who often visit the shopping centre, in their objection to South Gloucestershire Council. Town councillors are worried at the attraction of fixed odds gaming machines and don’t believe the prominent location proposed is the right place for such an operation. South Gloucestershire Council’s licensing subcommittee was due to debate
an application for a licence for the enterprise on November 28, while the main planning
application will be determined at a later date. Full story page 3
