Churchman speaks of his pride in response to refugee crisis The day the music RECTOR Ian Wallace has spoken of Yate’s “heart of compassion” as the town rallies to help Syrian refugees. The Rev Wallace, who is team rector for the area, said he was proud to be working with Yate Town Council on ways to help those caught up in the crisis. The council said it wanted to support refugees and is involved in planning a public meeting
to give individuals and groups the chance to work out how the community can best do that. Meanwhile, South Gloucestershire Council said it would take in vulnerable people identified by the Government. It is currently investigating how it can house and support refugee families who are brought to Britain from refugee camps. In Chipping Sodbury, car
dealership the Rounceval Carriage Company was used to collect donations for refugees after an appeal was started by a group of friends and neighbours. Organiser James Ball said: “We have been inundated with very kind offers of help and have received hundreds of bags of clothes, bedding and camping equipment.” More on Page 4.
