Budget cuts threaten future of Chipping Sodbury library COUNCIL cuts could lead to Chipping Sodbury losing its library as efforts are made to reduce the library service budget by £640,000. A public consultation on options to save money will be opened on February 22, giving users of the library a chance to make their views known. South Gloucestershire Council is also considering getting rid of its mobile library, which costs £80,000 a year to keep on the road. To achieve its savings, the council is further considering reducing some library opening hours. But it indicated that if there was a means of involving volunteers and parish councils in the running of libraries, the future of the service might not be so bleak. It costs £42,000 a year to keep Chipping Sodbury library open but it is within a mile of the more modern library in Yate. Full story on Page 6.
