Sale Conditions - Carlisle 2020 1.

The sale is subject to the conditions of sale recommended for use at markets by the Livestock Auctioneers Markets Committee for England and Wales* except in so far as these conflict with the following conditions, when the following conditions shall prevail

2.1

The sale is confined to females registered with and males birth notified to the HDSBA and are the produce of registered flocks and the property of fully paid up members of the HDSBA

2.2 The entry fee is £15 per animal payable on receipt of an invoice

2.8

The Purchaser to give his full name and home address and pay for all Lots purchased immediately at the close of the sale. No Lot or Lots shall be removed from the sale premises until paid for and a pass out slip obtained from the Auctioneers but each and every lot shall immediately at the fall of the hammer be considered as delivered and be and remain in every respect at the absolute risk and expense of the Purchaser and shall be removed from the sale premises at the Purchaser’s expense. The right of property shall not pass until the full purchase price is paid.

2.9

Purchasers paying by cheque must be prepared to produce reasonable proof of identity

3.1

Sheep will only be accepted into the market and penned for sale if they are accompanied by a current SAC certificate of official MVA status which has been correctly completed

Closing Date for entries is Thursday 3rd September

Photographs included with entries will be used for the society’s pre sale catalogue

Videos submitted to the society will be shown on the society’s Youtube page.

2.3

HDSBA reserves the right to govern the number of entries at sales.

3.2

Sheep catalogued with a Scrapie genotype must be accompanied by a valid certificate

2.4

The order of sale and position in the catalogue will be determined by ballot.

Maximum of four lots from each vendor to be sold consecutively. Vendors with more than 4 entries will have their remaining entries balloted after all entries have been drawn once.

4.1

All tags must comply with UK legislation and HDSBA rules on identification

4.2

All sheep must be back-stamped by the owners with the catalogue numbers only.

4.3

Substitutes must be declared to the HDSBA and to the Auctioneers not less than 48 hours prior to the sale and must be marked with a red dot not less than one inch in diameter behind the lot number. A maximum of two substitutes will be permitted per vendor.

5.1

Any animal got by ET must be identified as such in the catalogue

5.2

Any rams with semen retained before sale or females which have been flushed and embryos recovered before sale must be declared in the catalogue and announced at the time of sale. Failure to do so will result in the purchaser having the right to return the sheep and be repaid the purchase price and costs.

5.3

Any female that has been subjected to any abdominal surgery including laparoscopic AI, embryo transfer or Caesarean section must be so declared in the catalogue and must be physically capable of breeding again

2.5

Sheep can arrive between 3pm – 6pm on Friday 25th September and again from 7am until 10am on Saturday 26th September. Time of sale 2.00pm

2.6

There will be minimum reserve (upset) prices for sale entries as follows:

Shearling rams 200 guineas, Ram lambs 200 guineas, Older Ewes 180 guineas, Shearling ewe 200 guineas, Ewe lambs 150 guineas

Any sheep sold outside the ring must not be below these minimum prices and must be booked through the Auctioneers. Any sheep failing to reach the upset price in its category will be passed out unsold.

2.7

Sheep will be sold in guineas. A commission of 5.25% will be charged on all sales to the Vendor. Any changes or costs arising after the sheep have been sold (e.g. additional haulage, accommodation charges, veterinary fees etc.) will be borne by the Purchaser (including overseas buyers).

Sale Conditions - Carlisle 2020 6.1

All sheep entered and forward at any sale will be inspected by an official HDSBA Inspector to ensure that: -

The use of growth promoters is banned and HDSBA reserves the right to randomly test any sheep offered for sale.

(a) their Ear Tag and Lot No’s tally with the catalogue and with current UK legislation

7.3

Any interference with natural tooth growth is not permitted

(b) they comply with HDSBA’s breed standard

7.4

All shearlings must have been shorn bare, not before 1st March, in the year of sale.

(c) they are of good conformation and size and/or condition

8.1

(minimum weight: for shearling rams 100kg; shearling ewes 75kg;

ram lambs 65kg; ewe lambs 60kg)

(d) they are not incorrectly docked; daggy; faulty in teeth, testicles or udder; lame or showing signs of disease.

All rams, including ram lambs, are warranted by the Vendor to be capable of natural and effective service within 90 days of the sale. If at the expiration of the warranty period a ram is proven incapable of natural and effective service and within 14 days of the expiration of the warranty period a Veterinary Certificate is lodged with the Auctioneers confirming (on the day of examination): (a) the ram is incapable of performing a natural effective service and

(e) any sheep which, in the opinion of the inspectors is urine stained to the extent that it’s a welfare issue will be excluded from the sale

(b) that the incapacity is not the result of any apparent injury, accident or illness and

6.2

The expected minimum scrotum circumference (at widest) is for lambs 30cms and for shearlings 35cms

6.3

Any animals rejected by the Inspector will be marked by him and shall not be sold during or following the end of the sale.

6.4

The Inspector’s decision is final and binding and the Inspector shall be absolved from any responsibility or liability for any action taken as a result of his advice

6.5

The inclusion of any animal in the sale following any inspection is no warranty that the particular animal meets any criterion in respect of any standards or will do so in the future. Neither is it a warranty of health

(c) the Veterinary Surgeon has inspected the Purchaser’s ewes and found them to be in normal, responsible breeding condition; then the Purchaser shall have the option of, either a refund of the purchase price, or accept a ram of similar quality. If the Vendor so wishes he shall be entitled to have access to the ram for a veterinary examination. If a settlement is not reached then an independent arbiter shall be appointed by the Auctioneers and his decision shall be final. The transport costs, veterinary fees etc., involved in returning stock to the Vendor must be borne by the Purchaser. Purchasers are advised to arrange insurance of any rams purchased

8.2

HDSBA does not guarantee the stock getting capabilities of any sheep

9.1

Neither the Auctioneers nor HDSBA can accept responsibility for any errors or omissions

7.1

No colouring matter may be used on head or legs. Samples of hair may be collected from randomly selected animals and analysed for the presence of colouring matter.

In the event of any sheep being found to have been artificially coloured, the owner will be required forthwith by the Inspector to remove from the sale yard that sheep together with all other sheep in the same consignment. If sheep are found to have been artificially coloured the matter may be referred to the Sales Committee of HDSBA for consideration as to whether any reference should be made to the Disciplinary Committee.

Special Rules For Buyers/Customers To Cover Covid-19 Regulations As the Government Guidelines will reduce the volume of buyers being able to attend the sale, below are points we ask for your co-operation in order for the running of Live Sales.

• Face coverings are mandatory for all persons entering the mart. These must be worn without exception while in the market including the sales rings and pens.

• 2m social distancing must be observed wherever possible.

• To facilitate the Test and Trace system, all customers/visitors will be required to sign into the market. This process will include a declaration that they have not been in contact with anyone displaying symptoms of COVID-19, nor are displaying symptoms personally.

• Pregnant ladies must not attend the sale.

• Hand sanitiser stations will be available throughout the mart; however, it is strongly recommended that both consignors and buyers have an adequate personal supply and to use it regularly.

• Please follow instructions from market staff and security staff. A private security firm will be in attendance to assist H&H in ensuring social distancing is observed wherever possible.

• Strictly no private videoing/broadcasting on Social media, or phones etc in the pens or ring.

• If you are unable or do not wish to attend the mart but would like to bid on animal(s), then the auctioneers will faithfully execute commission bids for buyers. This will be regulated by a one way system through the market pennage area and is permitted for registered buyers only. If any buyer wishes to revisit the pens to view other stock, they must adhere to the one way system.

• Cooling fans are not permitted in the pens.

• If any media photographer is on site, it will be the responsibility of the vendor to take their stock to the designated area to get photographs taken.

MV Information and Signet Breed Benchmark ALL ENTRIES ARE FROM MV ACCREDITED FLOCKS Entry to HDSBA sales and almost all major Agricultural Shows with Hampshire Down classes is limited to Maedi Visna accredited sheep only. So if you are interested in selling or showing Hampshire Downs it is important to maintain/achieve MVA status by following good isolation procedures upon return and during transportation, following the scheme rules.

HAMPSHIRE DOWN BREED BENCHMARK 2020 Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs) and Indexes for Terminal Sire breeds have been updated. Signet’s new monthly, mixed breed analysis increases the commercial focus of existing traits and introduces a series of new EBVs. KEY CHANGES Rebasing - EBVs and indexes have been rebased and are expressed relative to the average animal in 2010.

Weight adjusted traits - Please note that carcase traits are now weight adjusted. This means that EBVs are a better prediction of carcase composition at a fixed weight as opposed to the previous method of adjusting for age.
