Visible Diversity: Painting Against The Dominant Story
from RICE Mag Vol. 4
“The Western world thinks of itself as white. It is far from the truth, but it is the story we are being told. The main character in this narrative is a cis-gender white male from middle-upper class. Where are the others? I have found it necessary in my art to challenge the dominant narrative and paint the ones that don’t get to be part of the main story. I started this process in Bogotá, where there is a blatant process of invisibilizing the majority of people in their full diversity. Back in Brussels, I have continued painting www.priscillasuarezbock.myportfolio.com the people society does not want to see and yet are everywhere to remind us they are there.”
