Visible Diversity: Painting Against The Dominant Story

Brussels, Belgium www.priscillasuarezbock.myportfolio.com

“The Western world thinks of itself as white. It is far from the truth, but it is the story we are being told. The main character in this narrative is a cis-gender white male from middle-upper class. Where are the others? I have found it necessary in my art to challenge the dominant narrative and paint the ones that don’t get to be part of the main story. I started this process in Bogotá, where there is a blatant process of invisibilizing the majority of people in their full diversity. Back in Brussels, I have continued painting the people society does not want to see and yet are everywhere to remind us they are there.”
