Springwell School The Springwell Student

Intent

In PSHE we aim to utilize our time and find ways in which to cover PSHE through a cross curricular approach using the theme ‘Me in our World’. This approach allows for more time, enrichment of all subjects and to make PSHE relevant and relatable to what is being taught as well as what is happening in the wider world. Across the year groups we aim to show progression through our school values as each year group will focus on being able to fully understand, embrace and role model the school values with a focus on one in each term. When a learner reaches Year 6 they will have completed the progression and be the embodiment of Springwell values.

Implementation

Through our many school and year group events the PSHE goals and values are providing opportunity for all learners to be exposed and enriched with information and experiences that they may not be exposed to outside of school. These include class assemblies, themed days, year group enrichment programmes, whole school religious, trips, family and sporting events.

What a Springwell Student Looks Like (Impact)

Through the continuous monitoring using the PSHE Personal Aims Passport, both learners and teachers can access goals to aim for that have been carefully selected for each year group in the areas of Relationships, Living in the Wider World and Health and Well-being. The progression between year groups is also focussed on our termly focus on the school values, leading to a well-rounded Springwell learner by the end of Year 6 walking away with skills to have:

Equality: To understand, feel and show equality to all those who are within and outside our school community.

Integrity: To understand what integrity is and to live by knowing what is right and wrong within and outside of school and making sure they do something about it, making a change.

Acceptance: To show acceptance of all religions, cultures, backgrounds and choices within and outside our school community.

Kindness: To understanding the true meaning of kindness and to show kindness to all within and outside of our school community.

Ambition: To have the passion and drive to believe in oneself to have the ambition to achieve any set goal both within and outside of school.

Assessment

With the use of the PSHE Personal Aims Passport, all three areas including Relationships, living in the Wider World and Health and Wellbeing are included. Each year group has had goals carefully selected that are appropriate and achievable within our cross curriculum for our learners to successfully aim for. These goals can be accessed throughout the year by both teacher, learners and used as a discussion point when speaking with parents. These can be found displayed in each classroom on a PSHE display wall.
