JOB DESCRIPTION SECTION ONE JOB TITLE: TOWN CENTRE RANGER

SECTION TWO REPORTING TO: Business Crime Reduction Manager LOCATION: Neville House, Town Centre, Ancient Market Place & Monday Market HOURS: 40 hours a week, based on a flexible rota SALARY: £18,000 per annum

SECTION THREE – OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB The Ranger team is responsible for ensuring full support and assistance to the Town Centre Management team in all aspects of the Operational Delivery of a Safer, Cleaner and Well managed Town Centre and will also support the delivery and implementation of a successful Markets, Street Events and Activities Programme across the town centre. SECTION FOUR – MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES STREETSCAPE RESPONSIBILITIES:  Extensive daily patrols in all weather, provide visitor, shopper information & assistance.  Clean, repair, paint, deal with stains and weeds, pick up and dispose of rubbish found on paving/alleyways and other town Centre areas.  Regular inspections of street furniture, installations, paving, drainage, street lighting etc.  Monitor and report on any non-compliance issues relating to the trade waste and cardboard recycling scheme.  Support the Business Crime Reduction Manager on all issues relating to the Safer street program.  Monitor the level of Street activities and entertainment code of practice/trading standards.  Provide First Aid Assistance, when required.  Assist the Project manager with the set up/take down of equipment for Events or street activities.  Attend Team Meetings.  Use of security radios and appropriate tools/equipment.  Deliver immediate improvements to the town centre environment through daily patrols that include cleansing duties such as street washing and graffiti and fly post removal.  Supporting your Manager to ensure the Street Management Programme is delivered to a high standard, on time and within budget.  Dealing with enquiries and complaints and were not possible to escalate to the relevant

ADMINISTRATION AND REPORTING DUTIES:  Improving project administration processes by identifying inefficiencies and recommending solutions.  Record & report for action via the GeoPal system any activity detrimental to the town.  Coordinating materials and research, generating schedules, reports and presentations, updating project information.  Collect data, analyses it and prepare reports, providing administrative support to your team and Manager.  Following up on open items and track issues.  Facilitating meeting and conferences, managing minutes from meetings. ADDITIONAL SUPPORT: MARKETS, EVENT & STREET ACTIVITIES: The Ranger team will be required to make themselves available to support the Markets & Street Events activities from time to time to ensure the successful delivery and implementation of the BID programme:    

To assist the Market Manager with the implementation and supervision of the day to day operational duties of the Ancient Market, Monday Market as and when required. To assist the Projects Manager in implementation and supervision of Street Events and Activities as and when required. To Monitor and report any breach or failure to adhere to Health & Safety compliance in relation to Markets Events & Street Activity. To monitoring the collection and removal of associated market, event & street activity waste is disposed of in the correct and appropriate manner.

OTHER DUTIES:  Perform risk assessments where necessary and Safety regulations.  Act as an ambassador for the Town Centre in assisting and advising service users and the public.  Work with the Police, Council Officers and external contractors.  Assess, evaluate duties and report to the Business Crime Reduction Manager on a regular basis.  Manage own work and make decisions independently whilst working as part of the Town Centre team.  Carry out the responsibilities of the post with due regard to all of the Company’s Policies and Procedures.  Act as a First Aider for the Company.  Undertake any other duties consistent with the level and nature of the post.


SECTION FIVE – MAIN LEVELS OF CONTACT INTERNAL: All staff members. EXTERNAL: Local businesses/Levy payers, Market Traders, Key Partners and Stakeholders, Local Authority, Police, Suppliers and Service Providers, and General Public, Environment Agency, London Fire Brigade, London Ambulance Service, Transport for London, Mayor’s Office, LDA, Parking Enforcement. SECTION SIX – SPECIAL FEATURES OF THE JOB  Flexible approach, ability to multi-task and prioritise workload, deal with tasks swiftly and effectively, be of a professional and courteous manner.  Flexible approach to working weekends and evenings to coincide with operational requirements, Market set ups, events or meetings.  The role requires a great deal of outdoor work in all seasons.  Must be prepared to wear a uniform.  Physically fit, well and active.  Acceptance of the no-smoking on duty requirement.  Required to be subject to an enhanced CRB check.  Understand the importance and need for company confidentiality and ability to professionally manage sensitive information and data.  The willingness to undertake all necessary training associated with this role. SECTION SEVEN – PERSONAL SPECIFICATION ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS:  Knowledge and understanding of issues in providing a good quality service.  First aid knowledge/trained. ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE:  Relevant customer service and communications experience.  Working as part of a team, experience of preparation of report writing.  Experience of identifying problems and initiating the appropriate action.  Must a hold full British Driver’s license. SKILLS & INTERESTS:  Impeccable people management skills and Exemplary communication skills.  Ability to manage a project (organise, plan, budget and allocate appropriate time and resource management) and ability to view projects long term.  Ability to use initiative and to be self-motivated, well-developed influencing and negotiating skills.  Ability to develop good working relationships.  Ability to establish and maintain partnerships with external stakeholders.  Professional and cordiale.  Decisive, logical thinking with creative problem-solving ability.  Hands on and practical approach, focus and thoroughness.


 Technical skills relevant to the role and good IT and administrative skills.
