THE CHALLENGES WE FACED PRIMARILY INVOLVED PROGRAMMING WITHIN THE CANTED WINGS, SO WE EXPLORED THE OPPORTUNITIES FOR VISITORS TO WALK BETWEEN THE BOX TRUSSES, MAKING LOOKOUT POINTS INTO THE RECYCLING CENTER, AND MAKING ADA COMPLIANT RAMP SYSTEMS.

WE EXPLORED ITERATIONS OF PATTERNS AND MATERIALS TO CLAD THE FACILITY SPACES DIFFRERNT TO THE SHARED PUBLIC SPACES. WHERE THE WALKWAYS OF THE SPINE MERGE INTO THE WTE FACILITY IS WHERE VISITORS CAN LOOK INTO SPACES AS WELL AS EXPERIENCE THE ALGAE FARM UNDERWATER.

EACH SEGMENTED WING IS HELD UP BY A BOX TRUSS SYSTEM WITHIN A FRAYING COLUMN GRID. THE LEFT WING HOUSES THE ARTIST RESIDENCE, GALLERY SPACE AND RECYCLING CENTER WHILE THE WING OF THE LEFT HOUSES THE WASTE TO ENERGY FACILITY. EACH FORM IS CLADDED DIFFERENTLY TO AN INDUSTRIAL STANDARD.

THE MINI CITY
The Mini City in Sawtelle addresses LA’s housing crisis by offering a multi-generational communal compound, accommodating diverse family structures within a cohousing framework. Through strategic unit arrangements and shared courtyards, the design promotes independence and support, while re-contouring the lot integrates rainwater harvesting and enhances social connectivity.

This project was aimed to establish the fundamentals of Grasshopper scripting and implement them in a new design proposal for an existing building in NYC.
My building was the Hilton UN Building, housing both office and hotel. My proposal was to make a breathable skin, a second layer to the building that acted as circulation, shading and planting devices.

DEPENDING ON HEIGHT RESTRICTIONS AND ANNUAL WIND PATTERNS, A SECONDARY CORRIDOR (BLUE) IS PROPOSED BETWEEN THE OLD AND NEW SKIN OF THE BUILDING.

IN-PUTTING BOTH SUN EXPOSURE AND ANNUAL WIND EXPOSURE INTO THE PANELLING SYSTEM, IT DETERMINES WHICH PANELS WERE MORE SUITABLE TO HOST VERTICAL FARMING SYSTEMS. THIS ONLY HAPPENS WHERE THE SECONDARY CIRCULATION IS TRUE AND AN ETFE PANEL EXISTS.

TRANSFIGURATION is a complete change of form or appearance into a more beautiful or spiritual state. By extracting the geometries of the painting, we overlayed the linework as guides to programming the Church of Transfiguration.
This geometry also dictated the forms of the acoustic panels and wings of the sanctuary.
