BIO Rhaymee Arch started her studio training when she was 5 years old, taking classes in ballet, tap, jazz and gymnastics. After moving around for a few years, she found herself dancing once again in Allison’s School of Dance in Graham, Texas when she was 9 and eventually joined their company. There she continued to train in ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, and musical theatre. In high school she took on multiple leadership positions by teaching at her studio and becoming captain of her high school’s dance team.

Rhaymee received her Associates of Arts degree at Cisco College in 2019 while on scholarship for being the colleges dance team captain. Over the years, she has enjoyed traveling to dance in performances such as the Alamo Bowl Halftime show in San Antonio, Texas, the Veterans Day Parade and Show in Branson, Missouri, and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York. During the Pandemic, Rhaymee took a break from school to focus on teaching and choreographing independently. She taught a few workshops at different studios and schools for high school and adult age levels and also worked for Charlene’s Dance and Cheer in Southern California, teaching many different classes and workshops for children. Now, Rhaymee is back in school and is currently finishing her BFA in dance with a focus in choreography at The University of Texas at El Paso. While attending she has had many opportunities to continue learning new dance forms, choreographing and performing, and further developing her passion and appreciation for dance.

ARTIST STATEMENT I seek to explore the movement in between movement more in depth. Giving those moments more meaning, more intention, and more purpose with a sense of authenticity. I want to create pieces that tell clear stories that engage audiences by engages with them physically or by pulling them in by pure emotional connection. I find a specific idea I am inspired by, like a movement, combination, shape, or texture in different parts of a project and bloom more from those ideas until it connects and fills the project with coherent work. Paying attention to repetition, pathways, themes, and the action/reaction time of movements that create the authentic or organic feeling of the project.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

When approaching dance education, I lean in to and prioritize the development of mindfulness. Giving dancers, and students in general, the knowledge they need to be the most successful dancers and humans overall in their career and personal life. It is important to me to educate, not just teach, because learning movement is just one small part of being a dancer. One should also learn where movement comes from, why we do certain movements a specific way, its impact on society and on our bodies somatically, how to perform movement in a way that is healthy and efficient and correct to its respected field. Something I took away from my dance education as a child that I found so important is that my teachers who taught me dance, did so in a way that also taught me important life lessons. This became important to me because this gave me a sense of security and belonging growing up in the studio. My teachers taught like they cared about each and every student and took the time with each of us to help us train our bodies, our minds, our creativity, and our hearts. This prepared me for not just the dance world but for the world in general. I always knew I was safe when I was in their classes- to be curious or venerable and this is now how I teach my students. To summarize, I want to provide my students with knowledge and correct understandings to be an efficient dancer and to be a successful human but do so in a way that provides room for them to grow in a space that is happy and safe. To provide affective affirmations for them to be vulnerable and find their own path in dance while also being there for the person behind the dancer when needed.
