COACHING STAFF Chris LeFevre Head Coach 5th Season Adelphi Univ. (2004) 517-264-3990 clefevre@adrian.edu Chris LeFevre embarks on his fifth season on the sidelines with the Adrian College men’s soccer program. LeFevre joined the Bulldog athletic department on January 5, 2009. He has laid the ground work for a change in culture and reputation with the Bulldogs due to hard work that he and his staff have put in. In 2012, Adrian College posted six wins including victories over Hope and Olivet in the MIAA. In addition, the team battled Calvin to a tie earning one point in the conference standings. Calvin would eventually win the league and advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The team was so close to turning around their fortune as they dropped nine one-goal matches. The 2010 season under LeFevre was a year of historical marks for the program. In the MIAA conference, the team achieved their first winning season since the 1983 season and placed third in the MIAA regular season, which was the highest in school history. The team also had four members named to the MIAA All-Conference team, another first in school history. LeFevre has eight years of college coaching experience including two years at the Division I level as an assistant coach with Canisius College in 2004 and Binghamton University in 2008. Mixed in between those two stops was his three-year stint as head coach at Genesee Community College. While there, LeFevre compiled a 41-17-1 record taking Genesee to the Regional Final Four and winning two Conference Championships. LeFevre graduated from Adelphi University in 2004 with a bachelor’s in Sports Management, while competing as a student athlete. LeFevre went on to receive his Master’s in Sports Administration at Canisius College in 2006. He has numerous licenses through the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. His most recent achievement through the NSCAA was receiving the Premier Diploma with a “Pass with Distinction”.

Paul Gilbert Assistant Coach 2nd Season Liberty Univ. (2011) 517-265-5161 x 4026 pgilbert@adrian.edu Paul Gilbert enters his second season as an assistant coach with the men’s soccer team after having previously coached at the Darlington School Soccer Academy and competing at the Division I level as a goalkeeper for Liberty University. Gilbert’s recognition as Big South’s Freshman of the Year and selection to the All-Conference team helped propel Liberty to their first Big South Conference championship and their first NCAA Division I post-season tournament berth. Gilbert’s name is peppered throughout the Liberty record book. His accomplishments are legendary. After twice leading the team in goals-against average in his freshman and senior years, he ranks fourth all-time in career shutouts (15), fifth all-time career in goals-against average (1.21), and eighth all-time career in saves with 140. He also holds all-time top-10 individual season rankings for: goals-against average and shutouts. With the latter, he is only one of two goalkeepers listed twice, ranking one season as third with eight shutouts and another season as seventh with five shutouts. Gilbert comes to Adrian after receiving a bachelor’s of science degree in sports management from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. Gilbert has prior experience coaching at camps and clinics during his college years. Over the past four years, Gilbert has worked at the Chicago Eagles Sports Ministry Academy, and as a Personal Goalkeeper Trainer.

LeFevre resides in Tecumseh with his wife, Betsy, and son Isaac.

NCAA DIVISION III Division III Philosophy Academics are the primary focus for Division III student-athletes. The division minimizes the conflicts between athletics and academics and keeps studentathletes on a path to graduation through shorter practice and playing seasons, the number of contests, no redshirting and regional competition that reduces time away from academic studies. Studentathletes are integrated on campus and treated like all other members of the general studentbody, keeping them focused on being a student first. Division III is engaged in division-wide discussions about implementing an Academic Success Rate in the near future. The NCAA has collected and reported graduation rates since 1991 for all students (using the six-year federal methodology) and for all studentathletes receiving athletically related financial aid.

While Division III students have been included in this process, a separate report on student-athletes in Division III has been absent because the division does not award athletics grants-in-aid. While many Division III institutions and conferences have tracked the academic success of their student-athletes, they have used a variety of criteria (for example, graduation, grade-point average, class rank). However, Division III recently completed a two-year pilot academicreporting program that produced data from a representative sample showing that student-athletes graduate at higher rates than those of their student-body peers. Division III members will decide soon whether a division-wide academic reporting structure that produces an annual Academic Success Rate is appropriate.

The Three D's Discover Division III student-athletes are encouraged to pursue their interests and passions beyond the classroom and field of play‌to discover themselves. Develop Division III institutions provide an environment that encourages student-athletes to develop into well-rounded adults. Small class sizes, the ability to participate in more than one sport, and an emphasis on participating activities outside of the classroom are all hallmarks of the Division III experience. Dedicate Division III institutions expect student-athletes to dedicate themselves to achieving their potential. Student-athletes must manage their busy schedules, keep up with class work and face the same challenges as the rest of the student-body.
