Arrington Ice Arena
Arrington Ice Arena was officially dedicated and opened for business on Oct. 19, 2007, as the NCAA men’s hockey team squared off in its inaugural game against Potsdam State. The Bulldogs christened the new facility with a resounding 9-1 win in front of a packed crowd, who were also in attendance to see Lord Stanley’s Cup on loan from the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. Adrian sports a sparkling 125-19-7 all-time record (.851) at Arrington. In addition, Arrington is home to Adrian College’s NCAA Division III women’s hockey, ACHA Division 1-2-3 men’s hockey, ACHA Division 1 & 2 women’s hockey as well as the synchronized/figure skating teams. The arena is named after Dr. Robyn J. Arrington, Jr. and his brother, fellow Adrian alumnus Harold M. Arrington. The brothers donated $3 million on behalf of their family. The $5.5 million project is also a place where local residents can use the facility for recreational activities. The operating schedule includes open skates for the community, learn-to-skate programs for children and adults and hockey programs for people of various ages and abilities. The arena consists of a single sheet of ice, 464 chair-back seats for capacity up to 1,000 standing-room only, a media press box, a president’s seating area, concession stand, pro shop with skate rental, offices for ice sports coaches and personnel and locker rooms. For more information about Arrington Ice Arena, visit the website at (www.arringtonicearena.com). Arrington Ice Arena has already been praised as one of the best hockey venues in Division III. The arena has hosted such events as a Detroit Red Wings alumni game and nine conference championship games. In addition, the facility has played host to the 2010 and 2011 ACHA Division I All-Star Game and the U.S. Intercollegiate Figure Skating Championships in 2014 and ‘17.

Adam Krug ‘12, who became the second head coach in the history of the Adrian College men’s hockey program on July 7, 2014, enters his fourth season at the helm of his alma mater. Since then, Adrian under Krug’s guidance has compiled a 68-15-6 (.798) overall mark, three NCAA Division III Championship appearances, three Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Peters Cup regular-season titles, two Harris Cup championships and seven All-Americans citations. In 2015-16, Adrian captured the NCHA Peters Cup and Harris Cup titles again en route to a 244-1 ledger and the NCHA South Division crown with a 17-2-1 record. Freshman defenseman Cory Dunn was a consensus All-America pick and senior blueliner Chris Leone made CCM American Hockey Coaches Association AllAmerica First Team and D3hockey.com Second Team. Krug also coached USCHO.com Rookie of the Year Connor Armour among a NCHAleading four all-conference standouts and seven academic all-conference honorees. Krug was the team captain for the Bulldogs in their inaugural season of 2007-08, earning second-team ACHA All-America honors. In just two seasons at Adrian, Krug ranks seventh all-time in school history with 129 points, sixth with 52 goals, fifth with 20 power play goals and ninth with 77 assists. Krug has gained valuable experience behind the bench since his playing days at Adrian. He served as the assistant coach, then associate head coach of the Indiana Ice of the United States Hockey League from 2012-14. He helped the Ice capture the 2013-14 Clark Cup championship awarded to the Tier I Junior “A” national champions. The Ice also won the 2013-14 Eastern Conference regular season title. Under Krug’s guidance, the Ice had over 30 players earn a NCAA Division I scholarship playing opportunity and four of the players were drafted by the National Hockey League. Krug joined the Indiana Ice coaching staff after a four-year professional hockey career across the United States and in Europe, including the East Coast Hockey League’s Cincinnati Cyclones and Toledo Walleye and Nijmegen Devils in the Netherlands. While on the Devils’ roster, Krug led the team in points (68) and assists (43).
Shawn Skelly ‘11 enters his first season as the Adrian College men’s ice hockey assistant coach after serving in a similar capacity for the NCAA runner-up women’s program during the 2016-17 campaign. The all-time leading scorer in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association history and one of the most prolific point producers in NCAA Division III history, Skelly was a teammate of current Bulldogs head coach Adam Krug ‘12. The Wolverine Lake product will work primarily with Bulldog defensemen and assist Krug in all facets of the program. Skelly played professional hockey for five teams from 2011 to 2016. Skelly was a member of the inaugural AC men’s hockey team in 2007-08, finishing his four-year career as the all-time leader in points (230), goals (102), game-winning goals (20), power-play goals (47), assists (128) and shots on goal (593). He was a 2011 AHCA/CCM First Team AllAmerica and four-year All-NCHA selection.

Jeremy Symington begins his seventh campaign coaching the Adrian goaltenders. He has helped Adrian’s goalies progress throughout their careers since the 2011-12 season. The Bulldogs have ranked among the national leaders in fewest goals allowed and save percentage during his tenure. Symington had a long minor league career. He spent nine years playing for 10 different organizations, beginning with the Elmira Jackals of the United Hockey League from 2001-03. He was selected by the New York Islanders in the eighth round (#196 overall) in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. He played collegiately at NCAA Division I St. Lawrence from 1997 to 2001, and posted a record of 16-8 with a 2.93 GAA as a senior. .

Conference Championships
2007-08: Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association regular-season and tournament champions in first year of program’s existence. Ended 26-3 overall, 19-1 in the MCHA and 11th in the NCAA Division III national rankings.
2008-09: MCHA regular-season and playoff champions, including school records with 27 victories and 20 conference wins. Closed seventh in the NCAA Division III national poll by USCHO.com with 146 points.
2009-10: Won both MCHA regular-season and playoff crowns for third time in a row. Even sweeter, the program’s first-ever bid to the NCAA Championship. still posted a 24-4 overall record (20-0 in the MCHA) and was 10th by USCHO.
2010-11: National runner-up finish in the NCAA III Championship, a year-end No. 2 national ranking by USCHO (with school-record 270 points) and simultaneous MCHA regularseason/tournament championships for the fourth-straight time. Adrian recorded a 25-4-1 mark overall and 18-1-1 in the conference.
2012-13: In the last season of the MCHA, Adrian reclaimed the conference tournament championship. Made the NCAA Quarterfinals, finished 23-2-3 overall, 17-0-3 in the league and sixth in both national polls by USCHO and D3hockey.com.
2014-15: Adam Krug ‘12 piloted the Bulldogs (24-4-3, 16-1-1 NCHA) to their sixth conference tournament championship, seventh regularseason title, fifth NCAA tournament berth while reaching the National Semifinals and final national rankings of third in both polls.
2015-16: The Bulldogs (24-4-1, 17-2-1 NCHA-S) repeated as Peters and Harris Cup champions for the fifth time in program history, earning their sixth NCAA tourney bid. They finished fourth in the national polls.
2016-17: Adrian (20-7-2 overall) claimed its ninth regular-season conference crown by going 17-3 in the NCHA to earn the Peters Cup. The Bulldogs reached the NCAA Semifinals for the third time in six seasons.
