‘Significant Strength’ in Outstanding Inspection page 12

Headmaster’s Introduction

Welcome to Excel

It is wonderful that the pupils in The RGS Worcester Family of Schools are performing at such a high level across so many areas of school life. We are immensely proud of the recognition our pupils and staff have achieved in recent Public Examinations, Awards, rankings and individual achievements. We were particularly pleased that the ISI Inspectors identified RGS as having exceptional working relationships between staff and pupils and between pupils and pupils. To have this recognised as a ‘Significant Strength’ is wonderful, especially since these are only identified in 1 in 10 independent schools and RGS is the only school in the area to have achieved this recognition.

In the Public Examinations, our pupils have excelled with our best ever A Level, BTEC and GCSE results (outside the Covid years).

Success comes from offering exceptional choice for our pupils together with the expertise, dedication and hard work of our staff which encourages the pupils to make the most of these opportunities. At a time when the independent sector is at risk of reducing its provision, we continue to develop and grow the opportunities for our pupils at RGS. This is extremely important, realising as we do that our parents are immensely committed to our schools and want the very best for their children.

Excel magazine is a snapshot of achievements, trips, expeditions and events from the past few months. It highlights the exceptionally strong academic performance and success in university and apprenticeship applications. I can tell you as a parent myself, that the pupils are extremely well supported academically and receive the highest standard of careers advice and guidance. Along with very strong pastoral care, the pupils really do aim high and make the most of all that is provided for them.

Outside the classroom, the opportunities are incredible and our pupils have achieved national and international success in a very wide range of sports. We received the School Games Mark Gold award for our sport again this year and are the official education partner for the Worcester Warriors. The pupils have a superb breadth of experience in the Creative and Performing Arts and we have been shortlisted as ‘Independent School of the Year’ for the Performing Arts. With 130+ activities each week and trips, sports tours and expeditions to Florida, the Venetian Riviera, South Africa and Borneo just last holiday, there is something for everyone at RGS!

With strong pupil numbers, superb academic results, wonderful opportunities and exceptional care and support, an RGS education encourages every single child to be the best they can be. We are pleased to have navigated recent national challenges so well, and parents can be reassured that RGS, as one of the oldest schools in the world, is established on very strong foundations both now and in the future.

Please do come and see all that is happening at our Schools at our Open events. Please come and find out what makes an RGS education very special and unusual. For the pupils, please do come and discover about all that you will enjoy in this friendly community. Our pupils and staff would be delighted to welcome you.

From bold performances and sharp choreography to seamless technical execution, the cast and crew brought the magic, mischief and heart of the story to life.

The Spirit of Sports Day

Sports Day at RGS The Grange was a fantastic celebration of our inclusive, community-focused values. Every pupil had the chance to participate, challenge themselves and experience the collective spirit of working towards a shared goal for their Houses.

Take One Picture

The whole school, from Nursery to Year Six immersed themselves in the ‘Take One Picture’ initiative from the National Gallery creating a vibrant Summer Art Exhibition. During Art week pupils created art inspired by Canaletto’s ‘A Regatta on the Grand Canal’, the exhibition featured everything from bold self-portraits to detailed mixedmedia creations each piece showing the creativity, skill and imagination of our young artists. RGS The Grange work was exhibited at the National Gallery.

Double County Champions

Our incredible Years Five and Six Girls Football Team made School history by becoming Worcestershire County FA Under 11 Champions for the very first time. Earlier in the month the Under 11 Boys Football Team, were also crowned Worcestershire Schools FA Champions. A double county victory for our Footballers.

National Prep Athletics

The Year Six production of Matilda was a phenomenal success, with every pupil contributing to its triumph, whether on stage or behind the scenes. From bold performances and sharp choreography to seamless technical execution, the cast and crew brought the magic, mischief and heart of the story to life.

Great Fire of London

Year Two stepped back in time to 1666 during an exciting Great Fire of London workshop, led by the History Man. The session was filled with interactive activities and intriguing facts as the children learned about life during the Great Plague and how the fire began. They even tried on period clothing and attempted to put out a fire using water pumps and buckets. The dramatic finale, when their Tudor houses went up in smoke!

Pastoral

RGS The Grange’s award-winning Pastoral Care is rooted in our ‘Flourish and Fly’ programme, which offers exceptional support for every pupil. The Knott Garden, a serene, walled space, offers a dedicated area for calm, reflective play. Here, children can unwind and a teacher is always available to listen and provide a quiet, supportive environment.

Thank You

After nearly 20 years of remarkable service to RGS

The Grange, Mrs Wendy Wreghitt retired in July 2025, leaving behind an extraordinary legacy. Far more than a Deputy Head, she was a wise guide and a compassionate heart for pupils, staff and parents alike. Her wisdom shone through not only in her knowledge and impeccable leadership, but in her kindness, integrity and calm presence. The words ‘Flourish & Fly,’ ‘Walk and Talk,’ and ‘Positivity’ will echo through the school for years to come, and the owl in our wellbeing garden will stand as a lasting tribute to all she has created. Thank you, Mrs Wreghitt.

Chess Club

Chess club is one of 77 Co-curricular clubs at the School. Pupils enjoy playing Chess together throughout the year learning the strategy required for this game, they particulary enjoy playing the game outside in the summer months.

Duathlon

The Great Grange House Duathlon saw Years Three to Six pupils take on an exciting House challenge, combining cycling and running. With their bikes ready in the ‘transition’ zone, the children raced across the 15-acre field, with energy and enthusiasm. The event was filled with excitement as they powered through both cycling and running segments.

National Choir Winners

RGS The Grange’s Chamber Choir won the coveted ‘Judges’ Choice Award’ at the Barnardo’s National Choral Competition at Birmingham Symphony Hall. Competing against 15 of the best junior choirs in the UK, the talented pupils gave a standout performance full of style, rhythm and musicality, earning this well-deserved recognition.

Exploring, Learning and Growing at RGS Springfield

At RGS Springfield Nursery, our pupils enjoy a vibrant and enriching day that strikes the perfect balance between structured learning and play. Mornings begin with free-flow play, followed by specialist sessions in Phonics, Maths, PE, Languages and Cooking, all taught by qualified teachers. The children also benefit from outdoor exploration in our beautiful paddock play area, walled garden and Forest School. After a delicious, cooked two-course lunch, the afternoon continues with more learning and play, including time in the paddock or nursery garden. Throughout the day, children are encouraged to explore their creativity, curiosity and build confidence.

It honestly feels like the Nursery team really do treasure your little one like family; taking a great interest in them as little people; supporting you with developmental changes and alway there to offer advice.

Current Parent

The setting is idyllic and like something from a story book, you can see the care that goes into planning the day, the communication is second to none, always receiving pictures of the children’s adventures and important updates.

The care and support my children have received while in the care of RGS Springfield Nursery has been exceptional. They always come home with the biggest smiles on their faces and talk so highly of all the staff. We couldn’t think of a better place for our children to start their educational journey. It truly is a wonderful place.
