40 YEARS OF RGS ECONOMICS 2022 isn’t the first time RGS has celebrated our Economics Department. The 40th anniversary of both the Economics and Politics Departments was marked by a staff reunion event at St James’ Park on 12 October 2002.

oger Loxley recalls the celebration: “We had recently done “40 Years On” as a play in the school hall so the idea of celebrating an anniversary was on my mind when I realised that the department was going to be 40 years old. So it seemed entirely appropriate to run an event to celebrate that. It was important to me to have both ex-staff and ex-students together to celebrate the anniversary and I was especially pleased to get almost all the ex-staff together, some of whom had not met up for many years. The range of ages and experience was great to see. We had teamed up with the ONA to make a day of it by having both a lunch and then move onto the evening with the ON Dinner with its focus being on the 40th anniversary of the department. I find it slightly hard to believe that I planned and ran the 40th anniversary and now we’re doing the 60th – how time flies! The lunch we had was in the corporate hospitality area of St James’ Park with a great view of the pitch behind us. We had a really good range of ex-students attending from a variety of backgrounds but all able to meet their ex-teachers again.”
