Day Lenten Fast and Prayer Guide March 2 – April 16, 2022 Ash Wednesday to Holy Saturday

Welcome to the Bethel Restoration Church 40-Day Lenten Fast & Prayer Guide.

During these 40 days, we want to encourage you to know that God hears our cries and will honor our participation through this time of repentance, reflection, refining, releasing and restoration. We trust that during this crucial time in prayer and fasting, God will divinely shift you to a season of an open heaven of healing, peace, unity and renewal as we corporately walk through these 40 days beginning on Ash Wednesday.

We thank God for your obedience to this spiritual call to action to fast and pray as we go before the Lord privately and corporately asking Him to illuminate your mind, pierce your heart and renew your spirit as you die to your flesh daily by fasting. May the ancient words of the Holy scriptures lead, guide and direct you to a deeper relationship with the almighty God. May He give you wisdom, clarity and strength during this spiritual journey.

Welcome

Fasting and Prayer is not a religion, it is a spiritual lifestyle. Fasting combined with prayer gives you divine access to God, advantage over the enemy, and puts you in proper position for a breakthrough from God. It also produces great spiritual results. Each day as you meditate on the suggested focus theme and scripture, take a moment to go before the Lord in prayer and agreement by faith that God hears your earnest prayer. Also, take the time to journal your thoughts.

Effective prayers essentially have three prerequisites. The first is we must pray the Word of God. The bible says that His Word won't return to Him void but it will accomplish what it was sent for. This means that whatever God says will happen. His word will be fulfilled and will not return empty-handed. God is not obligated to respond to our words, but He responds to His own. So, when we pray His Word, we can expect God to hear our prayer and His word to be accomplished. We know according to God’s word that He hears our prayers.

Isaiah 65:24 - Before they call, I will answer; while they are still speaking, I will hear. Again, as we pray His word He will answer.

Fasting & Prayer

Secondly, we must pray in faith. Matthew 21:22 (AMP) “And whatever you ask for in prayer, believing, you will receive.” When we pray in faith believing that God hears us and will answer God will perform His word.

Third, we must be on one accord. The bible tells us that when we are on one accord that God will answer our prayers.“ Again I say to you, that if two believers on earth agree [that is, are of one mind, in harmony] about anything that they ask [within the will of God], it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.

Matthew 18:19 (AMP) Therefore, as we journey together for the next 40 days, we believe that when we focus on God, on one accord that God will answer our prayers. James 5:16 (NIV) Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. Additionally, we see throughout scripture where God hears the cry of His people and responds. Exodus 3:7-8 (AMP) The Lord said, “I have in fact seen the affliction (suffering, desolation) of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters (oppressors); for I know their pain and suffering. 8 So I have come down to rescue them . . .”

Fasting & Prayer

Beloved, God has given His people power through Jesus Christ, so we have the authority to call things into being. Matthew 16:19 (AMP) I will give you the keys (authority) of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind [forbid, declare to be improper and unlawful] on earth will have [already] been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose [permit, declare lawful] on earth will have [already] been loosed in heaven.” As referred to in Job 22:27-28, “You shall also declare and decree a thing, and it shall be established for you; and the light of God’s favor shall shine upon your ways.”

As we join forces in prayer, we will call the Will of God to manifest on earth and come against any works of the enemy that will seek to derail it through deceit and distractions. Each day invite the Holy Spirit to reveal to the Words you “decide to pray” and He will give you the victory in Jesus’ name. God has given us the authority to call things into the earth that has already been established in heaven. Let us receive this 40-day mandate and promise, and with all diligence call forth the perfect will of God to manifest during this Lenten Season.

Fasting & Prayer

DANIEL 1:8-9; 11-15 8 But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way. 9 Now God had caused the official to show favor and compassion to Daniel, 10 but the official told Daniel, “I am afraid of my lord the king, who has assigned your[c] food and drink. Why should he see you looking worse than the other young men your age? The king would then have my head because of you.”

11 Daniel then said to the guard whom the chief official had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, 12 “Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink. 13 Then compare our appearance with that of the young men who eat the royal food and treat your servants in accordance with what you see.” 14 So he agreed to this and tested them for ten days.

15 At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food. 16 So the guard took away their choice food and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables instead.

LET US PRAY!

Pastor Zina C. Pierre Father in the name of Jesus, we come before Your thrown of grace as we call you the almighty God, Creator and Maker of heaven and earth, our redeemer and sustainer. Master You alone are worthy of all glory, honor, worship, adoration, and praise. Lord, you reign over all nations and rulers, for all time and eternity. You alone made every person in your divine image and likeness and deemed them worthy of love, respect, dignity, and honor. But now, O Lord, sinful, stony hearts, of some of your children have polluted the earth physically and soiled it spiritually with the lingering impact of perverse mindsets, polluted prayers, bankrupt spirits, and systemic injustices. Nevertheless, God we recognize in 2 Chronicles 7:14 that when we humble ourselves, pray and seek Your face, and turn from our wicked ways You will hear from heaven and forgive us of our sins and heal our land. So, as we beseech Your presence during this time with You, let healing, deliverance and restoration be our portion in Jesus' name. Amen.

Prayer Focus

There are options during these 40-Days for how to fast. This “Daniel Fast” is a 24/7 six days a week commitment for seven weeks.

Sundays are days of rest, and you are FREE to eat any food of your choosing accept pork.

We recognize that you may be under medical supervision, so we ask that you consult with your physician prior to beginning. Commit to a particular fast that best works for your health not your convenience. If you falter on your fast, do not condemn yourself or give up, repent and start again the next day. This is not a day-to-day basis fast; it is a 40-day Daniel fast to include - water, fruit, nuts, grains, legumes, and vegetables. In addition, avoid negative discussions or engagement.

Fasting & Prayer Instructions

One of the great things about the Daniel Fast is that you are not limited to any specific amount of food but rather to the kinds of food you can eat.

FOODS TO INLCUDE IN YOUR DIET DURING THE DANIEL FAST All fruit – fresh, frozen, dried, juiced, or canned (no corn syrup or added sugars) All vegetables – fresh, frozen, dried, juiced, or canned All whole grains – barley, brown rice, oats, quinoa, millet, grits, whole wheat pasta All nuts & seeds – almonds, cashews, macadamia nuts, peanuts, pecans, pine nuts, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, and peanut butter All legumes – canned or dried; black beans, black-eyed peas, cannellini beans, garbanzo beans (chickpeas), great northern beans, kidney beans, lentils, pinto beans, white beans, and split peas.

All quality oils – avocado, coconut, grapeseed, olive, canola, peanut, sesame, and walnut.

I Commit Myself to This Sacred Journey Joel 1:13-14

13 Put on sackcloth, you priests, and mourn; wail, you who minister before the altar. Come, spend the night in sackcloth, you who minister before my God; for the grain offerings and drink offerings are withheld from the house of your God. 14 Declare a holy fast; call a sacred assembly.

Summon the elders and all who live in the land to the house of the Lord your God and cry out to the Lord.

Day 1

God Cleanse Me From Anything That Hinders Me From You Psalm 51:1-2, 12 1 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. 10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. 11 Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

Day 2

Father Help Me to Be Humble 2 Chronicles 7:14-15 14 If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. 15 Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer made in this place.

Lord Help Me to be Consistent 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Day 4

I Will Not Be Moved By the Messiness of Others Psalm 37:7-9 7 Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. 8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil. 9 For those who are evil will be destroyed, but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land.

Day 5

God Help Me to See Me the Way, You See Me 1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

God Show Me How to Rest in You

Matthew 11:28-30 28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

I Can’t Afford to Stop Now

I Will Rest in Gods Yolk

I Will Stand Up and Not Be Silent

Jeremiah 1:17-19 17 Get yourself ready! Stand up and say to them whatever I command you. Do not be terrified by them, or I will terrify you before them.

18 Today I have made you a fortified city, an iron pillar and a bronze wall to stand against the whole land—against the kings of Judah, its officials, its priests and the people of the land. 19 They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you and will rescue you, declares the Lord.

My Prayer is My Weapon Ephesians 6:10-17 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

I Will Not Be Distracted By What’s Happening Around Me Isaiah 26:3 You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because He trusts in You.

Day 28

My Faith is Bigger Than My Fears

2 Chronicles 20:1-4 It happened after this that the people of Moab with the people of Ammon, and others with them besides the Ammonites, came to battle against Jehoshaphat. 2 Then some came and told Jehoshaphat, saying, “A great multitude is coming against you from beyond the sea, from Syria; and they are in Hazazon Tamar.” 3 And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. 4 So Judah gathered together to ask help from the Lord; and from all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord.

Day 29

I’m Turning My Battles Over to God 2 Chronicles 20:14-17 14 Then the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, in the midst of the assembly. 15 And he said, “Listen, all you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat! Thus says the Lord to you: ‘Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.

Day 30

I Am Commanding My Peace Today Mark 4:36-41 36 Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. 37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. 38 But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” 39 Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.

I Will Mind My Mouth and Actions

Ephesians 4:29-32 9 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

I Refuse to Return to What Almost Killed Me 2 Thessalonians 3:1-5 1 Finally, brothers and sisters, pray for us, so that the word of the Lord may spread rapidly and be glorified everywhere, just as it is among you, 2 and that we may be rescued from wicked and evil people; for not all have faith. 3 But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one. 4 And we have confidence in the Lord concerning you, that you are doing and will go on doing the things that we command. 5 May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ.

Day 33

My Praise Gives Me Access to Joy

Psalm 30:4-5 4 Sing praises to the Lord, O you his faithful ones, and give thanks to his holy name. 5 For his anger is but for a moment; his favor is for a lifetime.

Weeping may linger for the night, but joy comes with the morning.

Day 34

Thank You God for Hearing My Call

Psalm 20:6-9 6 Now this I know: The Lord gives victory to his anointed. He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary with the victorious power of his right hand. 7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. 8 They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm. 9 Lord, give victory to the king! Answer us when we call!

Day 35

My Waiting Will Pay Off in the End

Isaiah 40:27-31 27 Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, “My way is hidden from the Lord, and my right is disregarded by my God”? 28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. 29 He gives power to the faint and strengthens the powerless.

30 Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted; 31 but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.

Day 36

Things Are Changing For My Good 1 Corinthians 4:7-12 9 "In the end I will turn things around for the people. I'll give them a language undistorted, unpolluted, Words to address God in worship and, united, to serve me with their shoulders to the wheel. 10 They'll come from beyond the Ethiopian rivers, they'll come praying - All my scattered, exiled people will come home with offerings for worship. 11 You'll no longer have to be ashamed of all those acts of rebellion. I'll have gotten rid of your arrogant leaders. No more pious strutting on my holy hill! 14 So sing, Daughter Zion! Raise the rafters, Israel! Daughter Jerusalem, be happy! celebrate! 15 God has reversed his judgments against you and sent your enemies off chasing their tails. From now on, God is Israel's king, in charge at the center. There's nothing to fear from evil ever again! God Is Present Among You.

Day 37

I’ve Got Divine Access

Romans 5:1-5 1 Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. 3 And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.
