The Art of the Contest

Inlight of the ambitious Back to the Future initiative that will propel us through this summer, I’d like to take this message to reflect on the delicate art of running a contest. It’s tempting to think of contests as merely an add-on to your regular operations, the cherry on top of what you’re already doing on a daily basis.

But in fact, contests are a crucial component of successfully bending the curve of your business, and managing them well is an art as much as a science.

In fact, running contests—both regular and special—is one of

the most important parts of the Rainbow business, and requires a series of strategic decisions. The first is, who will you choose to incentivize? You need to determine your focus groups—the segmented groups of people whom you will try to boost to the next level, which will then elevate your company to that next level as well.

Staying in touch with this group is crucial, because the only way a contest can be truly effective is through consistent and heavyweight follow-up, especially through RBO messaging. The beauty of the RBO platform is that it makes it incredibly easy to divide your people into specific groups, in order to deliver the right message to the right people at the right time. This is how you stay on top of your progress. Contests don’t run themselves, as convenient as that would be! Instead, you need to plan, schedule, and oversee every aspect of a contest for it to be as effective as possible in boosting engagement and growth.

The next component is, as always, my favorite—drilling down into the numbers. Using our Power BI software gives you the opportunity to design and implement contests according to your vast experience and keen intuition, built on a foundation of hard

data, which never lies. Using BI, you can isolate which part of your business you’d like to move and tweak the contest in that direction. A point system can prioritize recruitment, for instance, or reward sales. The point is that the power is in your hands, and it’s up to you to educate yourself and your staff on how to most effectively utilize analytics when running a contest. Another important thing to remember is that our executive team exists for a reason—to help you diagnose problems, decide on the best application of each contest, and support and motivate you through them. Think of us as first responders, the specialists you turn to in an emergency. If your data indicate that something is going south, don’t hesitate to call in your personal SWAT team. We are all in this together, and I promise you, you’ll be glad you reached out.

With all that in mind, buckle in for a wild Back to the Future ride this summer! Once you’ve mastered the art of the contest, there’s nothing left to hold you back—and I can’t wait to see what you achieve!

Back to the Future - Summer Sales Challenge

This Rainbow Distributor contest is a phenomenal opportunity to get our third quarter sales back on track worldwide! What we’re trying to achieve is nothing new; all we have to do is hold steady while aiming ever higher—hence, Back to the Future. So, in formulating this challenge, we have decided to put a major focus on “motivating the motivators.” Fundamentally, each distributor will be competing against themselves, on their own level, for their own award Rainbows—which means there is no excuse not to excel and achieve your reward.
