¿Podría adelantar algunas características del nuevo aeropuerto? El edificio tendrá una superficie de aproximadamente seis mil metros cuadrados con capacidad para recibir entre ocho y diez vuelos diarios, a un promedio de cien pasajeros por avión con un nivel de servicio IATA-C. Esta nueva terminal plantea ser un edificio de alta calidad ambiental y de muy bajo impacto ecológico. A tal fin, el proyecto implementa tres acciones claves: optimizar el acondicionamiento natural ahorrando significativamente el uso de energía para refrigeración, maximizar la iluminación natural en los espacios interiores e integrar sistemas de energías renovables. ¿Cómo se organiza el funcionamiento de un buen aeropuerto ecológico? Como decía recién, respetando las tres acciones mencionadas, el edificio incorporará sistemas de energías renovables en el techo para reducir la demanda de energía convencional. Además, se incorporarán colectores solares para calentar el agua, sin uso de combustibles convencionales o electricidad de fuentes renovables o no renovables para satisfacer la demanda limitada de agua caliente destinada al edificio de la terminal del aeropuerto. El diseño de los desagües pluviales permitirá el control de calidad y cantidad de las descargas.

Could you share any of the specifics of this new airport with us? The building will have a surface area of approximately 6,000 square meters, with the capacity to dock 8-10 flights per day, averaging 100 passengers per plane (with IATA-C levels of service). Our plan is for it to be a high quality terminal, eco-friendly, with a low impact on the environment. To achieve this, there are three key components to the project: optimize the natural climate conditions to minimize the need for air conditioning, maximize natural lighting within the airport and incorporate renewable energy systems. How exactly is an eco-friendly airport run? Like I said, it’s key to respect the three actions I mentioned above: for example, renewable energy systems on the roof to reduce the need for conventional energy consumption. In addition, we will integrate solar panels to heat water, without having to rely on conventional gases or electricity as the sources to meet the demands of hot water in the terminal. As water is also limited, we have designed gutters that will control the quality and flow throughout the building.
¿Cómo será el cuidado del medioambiente durante la obra? Teniendo en cuenta la necesidad de preservar la ecología durante los trabajos, y para garantizar la estabilidad del ecosistema durante la obra, se harán controles ambientales contiguos, se emplearán mecanismos especiales para disminuir niveles de polvo y se reemplazará parte de la maquinaria pesada por mano de obra. Además, los implementos para mezclar cemento y hormigón no tendrán químicos. En este plano es que la gestión de la obra pondrá énfasis en la reducción de desperdicio de materiales.
What measures are you taking to care for the environment during the construction? Taking into account the need to be conscious about ecological conservation and ensuring the stability of the ecosystem during construction, there will be regular environmental tests, we will use special techniques to limit levels of dust and we will rely on manual labor for certain tasks that would typically be done with heavy machinery. In addition, none of the substances used to mix the cement and other construction materials will contain chemicals. Waste management control as it relates to the construction materials will be a priority.
¿Qué destacaría del diseño? El diseño arquitectónico que se implementará se basa en estrategias de sustentabilidad, respetando la iluminación y ventilación natural, la protección solar, el confort visual, la eficiencia de iluminación artificial y control térmico. Las estrategias planteadas contribuyen a lograr un edificio acondicionado por medios naturales a fin de producir el mínimo impacto en el ambiente exterior, además de estar pensado en la salud y en el confort de los ocupantes del ambiente interior. Con la importancia puesta en toda la cadena aeroportuaria y el respeto por los pasajeros, es que este proyecto contempla las exigencias operativas, funcionales y de accesibilidad como también garantiza la seguridad, eficiencia y comodidad de los pasajeros y del personal del aeropuerto.
What would you highlight with regard to the design? The architecture is based on the idea of creating a sustainable building, which incorporates natural light and ventilation, shades the building from sunlight, is aesthetically pleasing, and efficiently distributes artificial light and temperature control. These strategies are designed to create a building that can be sustained through natural sources, with the intent of reducing the impact on the outside environment, while creating a pleasant environment within. As we have done in all of our airports, we pay special attention to the need of our passengers, ensure high operational, functional and accessibility standards, while guaranteeing the safety, efficiency and comfort of our passengers and airport employees.
