Who’s up next to represent Philly’s legendary hip-hop scene? BY KERITH GABRIEL

H

ow long is the wait for the emergence of the next hip-hop artist from Philly? Who’s going to be the next Meek Mill and Lil Uzi Vert? Chill Moody? PNB Rock? Marv Mac? Is it Robbie Casablanca? It’s a question that many who know the underground lab work still wonder as Philly’s rap game is on a hiatus in terms of the next mainstream artist to put what has been a rich history of beats and rhymes on the map. It’s also a question on the minds of the up-and-comers that work in the genre, like Lea Faye and Brianna DeMayo. Faye, who routinely does freelance work for the popular Philly social site, Wooder Ice, covered the latest installment of the Philly Hip-Hop Awards. DeMayo, who is more aptly known as “Breezy” in rap circles is a a publicist that runs the blog TasteCreators.com. Both dished to PW about the current state of Philly’s hiphop scene saying that today’s sound still tells a classic story, but in a much different way as it looks to hook a new wave of savvy millennials.
