HIGH ACHIEVEMENTS AND NEW RECORDS REVESBY WORKERS’ LITTLE ATHLETICS CENTRE
After 8 years of planning, Revesby Workers' Little Athletics Centre has moved to new grounds this season, Kelso North Regional Sports Precinct. These facilities are shared with East Hills Baseball, Bankstown AFL and Bankstown Grade Cricket Club.
While the facilities are not yet complete the grounds and track for the athletes to compete on is a 100% improvement on what the athletes had to work with over the past decade. The athlete retention numbers, participation in outside competitions and entry into Zone, qualification to Region and now State Championships is testament to this.
This season there was 365 athletes registered with Revesby Workers’ Little Athletics Centre, from Tiny Tots to Under 17. Of those, 153 were new to the Centre. This was the largest number of registrations since the year 2000 when the Olympic Games were held in Sydney. A number of these athletes have been competing in external athletics competitions such as NSW and Australian All Schools and State Juniors and have now qualified to compete at National Juniors in Queensland.
79 athletes in the Under 7-U17 age groups nominated to compete at the Southern Met Zone Championships, held at Illawong in December 2022. From this championship 66 athletes qualified to compete at the Region 8 Championships held at The Crest Athletics Track in early February.
It was a delight to witness 30 of those athletes qualify to compete at the Little Athletics NSW State Track and Field Championships held at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre in mid-March. The conditions were extremely hot and challenging; however, many personal bests were achieved and there was a number of medal winners. Of the 30 athletes competing, 18 achieved a top 10 placing or better in NSW. With 6 athletes achieving a podium finish in the top 3 within their chosen event.
The numbers of competitors and qualifiers has been growing year on year, from 13 State qualifiers in 2018-19 season to 26 last season and now 30 this season! A big thank you must go to the Centres dedicated officials and coaches who spend time preparing the athletes and ensuring a varied round of competition events each Friday night.
