Have you released reef fish only to see them float off on the surface? This is due to barotrauma, a pressure-related injury fish experience when caught from deep water.
As fish are reeled up, gases in the body expand causing internal damage often leaving fish bloated and unable to return to depth on their own. This typically occurs in depths of 50 feet or greater, but can occur in shallower depths for some species.
What can you do?

Be a responsible angler and do your part to ensure fish survive release. Don’t be that angler with a string of fish floating off behind the boat.
Incorporate best release practices into your fishing plan by having the right tackle and tools with you before heading out on the water.
Encourage other anglers to Return ‘Em Right and use best practices. Be a positive influence to those around you.
