Meet the Tennis Pros

Meet the Tennis Pros Director of Tennis Joe D’Aleo Joe D’Aleo has been with TOPS’L since 1995 and has played a vital role in making TOPS’L one of the best tennis resorts in the country. His passion and devotion to the game have given him an accomplished tennis background as a player, coach and teacher. Joe started playing tennis when he was three-years-old with his parents in Miami Beach, FL. Joe was ranked #5 in the state of Georgia in 1989, which led him to play collegiate tennis singles and doubles for Georgia Tech in Atlanta. He has coached many state and nationally ranked juniors and adults during his career. In 2003, he was voted Best of the Emerald Coast teaching professional. Joe has been certified with the USPTA as an Elite Professional for 20 years and was nominated USPTA 2006–2007 District Pro of the Year, Florida division for the Panhandle. He was the USPTA FL District President for District 1 from 2010–2013 and currently serves on the USPTA FL board as Vice President. He has been awarded USPTA FL District President of the year for 2011 and 2012 and received the prestigious honor of USTA FL & USPTA FL service award in 2011.

Head Tennis Professional Sam Vickroy Sam Vickroy has been part of the TOPS’L tennis staff since 2004. His father started him in the game of tennis in Nashville, Tennessee, which led to Bill Tym coaching Sam throughout his junior tennis career. Sam was a top-ranked junior player at the state and southern levels. Sam played college tennis at Virginia Intermont NAIA, where he went undefeated his senior year in #3 singles and #2 doubles, with the team finishing 14th in the nation that year. After college, Sam went to work for world-renowned professional Bill Tym at Richland Country Club where he got the opportunity to work with some world-ranked juniors. Sam has been a USPTA Elite professional for 15 years and continues to grow his knowledge of the game year after year. His enthusiasm and love of teaching makes him a great instructor for both private lessons and group clinics. Sam’s experience adds a lot of expertise to the tennis program at TOPS’L, and we look forward to many more years with Sam as part of the team.

Assistant Tennis Professional Tyler Marengo Tyler Marengo joined the TOPS’L tennis staff in 2013. Tyler’s junior tennis career marked him as one of the top players in Michigan in both singles and doubles. During his junior career, Tyler also earned a Division 1 State Championship title in doubles. He later attended Ferris State University, where he proved to be a valuable asset, as well as a leader of the men’s varsity team. Tyler’s singles/doubles career of 82-27 earned the record for Best Singles Career and second Best Doubles Career at Ferris State. Tyler is a USPTA Elite Professional and enjoys teaching players of all ages and abilities.

Ferris State University’s Professional Tennis Management program was not only the first of its kind in 1986, but remains one of only two to this day, and is the largest bachelor’s degree program accredited by the USPTA. Tyler graduated Ferris State University in 2013 with a degree in Professional Tennis Management with an emphasis on Business Administration. During his college career, Tyler also completed summer internships at the Birmingham Country Club in Michigan, as well as the Greenwich Country Club in Connecticut.
