What to know about Stomach Stapling? Stomach stapling is a surgical process that will help you lose weight when exercise, diet, and medication don't work. It is the oldest bariatric (weight loss) surgery. More effective and advanced bariatric procedures replace that. These newer types of bariatric surgery work better and have fewer complications.

In this post, we will take a closer look at what Stomach stapling entails, as well as the procedures that have replaced it.

What is Stomach stapling? It is a VBG (vertical banded gastroplasty). A gastroplasty is a surgical procedure that reduces the size of your Stomach. In this Stomach Surgery, the surgeon creates a small stomach pouch and separates it from the rest of your Stomach using surgical staples. An opening about a dime's size is left between the two stomach areas to move out of the pouch into the larger stomach area. In the Stomach stapling procedure, used only staples create the pouch. VBG was developed a little later. With a VBG band surgeon separates the stomach pouch from the rest of your Stomach, in addition to staples. That makes the separation stronger and a little more permanent.
