As the leaves begin to turn and fall routines set in, RES Auction Services is gearing up for another strong season of sales. Fall has always been one of our busiest times of the year, and for good reason. It’s a season of transition—families making moves, land changing hands, and equipment shifting to where it’s needed most.
The auction method continues to stand out because it delivers real, market-driven results. Sellers can trust the process to bring true value, while buyers know they’ll find fair opportunities in a competitive setting. That balance is what keeps auctions thriving year after year, and it’s why so many choose RES when it’s time to make a move.
At RES, we’re proud to be part of those decisions. We combine years of experience with innovative marketing, a strong buyer network, and the dedication it takes to make each auction a success. From the first conversation to the final bid, our team is here to guide the process and create the best outcome possible.
Inside this issue of Auction Advantage, you’ll find a full schedule of upcoming fall auctions, along with updates from across the land, real estate, and equipment markets. Whether you’re here to buy, sell, or simply stay connected with what’s happening in the industry, we’re glad you’re part of the RES community.
On behalf of all of us, thank you for your continued trust and support. Have a safe and successful fall season—we look forward to seeing you at the next sale.

UNLOCKING VALUE: A
COLLECTOR’S GUIDE TO VINTAGE FIREARMS
When it comes to buying firearms, particularly vintage and collectible pieces, there are several key things to keep in mind:
BUY FROM REPUTABLE DEALERS: First and foremost, work with trusted, reputable dealers. Consider their history, read reviews, and review past listings. If you’re still unsure, give them a call and ask questions—most reputable dealers are happy to provide guidance.
UNDERSTAND CONDITION RATINGS: Condition can be subjective. One person’s 95% might be another’s 80%. At our auction house, we use a grading scale of Poor Fair Good
Very Good Excellent. For those buying locally, we always encourage visiting our quarterly firearm auctions to see items in person before bidding.
PRIORITIZE ORIGINAL VINTAGE FIREARMS: For older rifles, originality matters. An aged rifle showing normal wear is often more desirable than one that has been re-blued, restocked, or modified in any way. Factory-original firearms are almost always more collectible and valuable than altered versions.
HOW TO SPOT ALTERED FIREARMS
Be skeptical if something seems too perfect. Here are a few things to watch for:
RE-BLUED FIREARMS: Check proof marks and roll marks. Polishing and re-bluing can soften lettering and details. Factory light strikes are possible, but often a soft mark indicates a reblued gun.
STOCK MODIFICATIONS: Stock cutting was common in the past but is usually easy to spot. The average Length of Pull (from the back of the stock to the trigger) is between 13.5–14 inches.
OPTICS OR SIGHT DRILLING: Not all guns were factory-drilled for scopes or rear peep sights. Some may have been customer-ordered or modified later. Barrels may also have been ported post-manufacture.
DO YOUR RESEARCH
Knowledge is your best tool. Many authors focus on specific firearms or brands, providing detailed guides to identify different iterations. Online resources can also be helpful, but must be carefully vetted. Both in print and online, the Blue Book of Guns is an excellent resource for manufacturing dates, specifications, and potential value.
By keeping these tips in mind, collectors and buyers can make informed choices and ensure they are adding genuine, valuable pieces to their collections.

CURRENT 2025 LAND SALES STATS
• SERIOUS BUYERS. Winter buyers are not “just looking.” Whether it’s farmers planning for the next planting season, investors securing land before spring, or outdoor enthusiasts wanting a property lined up before warm weather, winter buyers are ready to act.
• CLEAR VIEWS OF THE LAND. With less vegetation, buyers can better see the lay of the land, drainage patterns, property lines, and timber quality. For farmland, this can help highlight soil conditions and tillable acreage more clearly.
• YEAR-ROUND DEMAND. Farmland and recreational properties aren’t tied to a “season” the way residential homes sometimes are. Farmers, hunters, and investors are always looking for opportunities — and winter is no exception.
Don’t let the cold months fool you — winter can bring some of the strongest opportunities for sellers of farmland, wooded acreage, and rural properties. If you’re considering selling, now might be the right time to start the conversation.
Call us at (833) SOLD-RES or visit RES.bid to start the conversation.
A SELLER’S JOURNEY WITH RES WHY SELLING IN THE WINTER CAN BE A SMART MOVE
When the Cole family decided it was time to sell their Sterling gentleman’s farm, they turned to RES Auction Services for guidance.
Earlier this year, RES Auction Services conducted the Sterling Gentleman’s Farm Absolute Auction in Wayne County. The sale featured 55 acres offered in three parcels, a farmhouse with multiple outbuildings, wooded and tillable land, along with tractors, equipment, and personal property. For trustee Yvonne Shaffer, representing the Cole family, the experience of selling such a meaningful property was made easier by the support of the RES team.
“What impressed us most was how approachable and patient everyone was,” Yvonne explained. “They answered every question and provided professional, organized guidance right from the beginning. We always felt they had our best interests at heart.”
RES helped the family feel confident by carefully explaining each parcel and the auction process in detail. “No one was rushed,” Yvonne said. “There was plenty of time for bidders to consider their options, and we felt at ease knowing RES was handling everything.”
By auction day, the Cole family felt fully prepared. With a large RES team onsite, everything ran smoothly and help was available whenever needed. “They were there with complete support every step of the way,” Yvonne noted. For the Coles, RES wasn’t just an auction company—it was a trusted partner that walked alongside them throughout the journey.
