A Piece From … Our President Welcome to tonight’s Gala Concert. This year we are very excited to showcase all of our ensembles in a Gala Concert Series consisting of a separate concert for each ensemble. Tonight’s performance promises to be both entertaining and enjoyable. Resa’s Pieces now has a membership of over 150 people in all three ensembles. The Concert Band is conducted by Resa Kochberg whose vision created the organization. We are thrilled to welcome Ian Medley as conductor of Resa’s Pieces String Ensemble. We're also excited that Robert Graham is once again leading Resa's Pieces Singers. Thank you to all our esteemed and talented conductors for your dedication and devotion. I would like to thank all the members of Resa's Pieces board for their dedication and contributions to the continued success of Resa’s Pieces. As well, I would like to thank our Executive Director, Ruthie Fishman, for her ongoing dedication and devotion to our organization. A Piece From ... Our Executive Director I am delighted to welcome you to: 3 Wonderful Ensembles... 3 Exceptional Conductors... 3 Evenings of Great Music!
I want to take this opportunity to congratulate our esteemed conductors – Resa, Ian, and Robert - for their unending dedication to our ensembles, led with charm and humour and infused with FUN! It is because of them that our June gala concerts are yet again a huge success! And a heartfelt “Bravo” to all of the “Pieces”! This season would not have been possible without all of you and your participation in “Reawakening that Talent and Rediscovering making Music". Amazingly, we’re now 150 members strong! As well, I would like to commend Resa’s Pieces Board members for their continuing vision in leading our organization. It has been a privilege for me to play a part in achieving another milestone year. I am also truly touched by the strong turnout of all our sponsors and supporters, whose loyalty we are indeed grateful for in providing us - and others - with the gift of music. Congrats to all on a most successful season! To leave you with some thoughts as the music begins... “The music is not in the notes, but in the silence between.” - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
“If you cannot teach me to fly, teach me to sing.” - J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan
“Ah, music," he said, wiping his eyes. "A magic beyond all we do here!” - J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
So, listen for the silence, be lifted by song, find magic and above all...enjoy! Warm regards,
Ruthie Fishman Executive Director
Resa's Pieces would like to thank the incredible team of professionals who helps us realize our 3 Gala evenings. We extend much appreciation to: Janice Chesney, Chair 2015 Programme Book; Brad Fuller, Art Director of Bradfordbrown Design; Tobi Liederman, Administrative Assistant; Alex Sirota, NewPath Consulting; and Mervyn Ziv of Broadway Printers Ltd.

Robert Graham Robert is really excited to be involved with Resa's Pieces Singers and has been at the helm of its success since it began. As Choir Master, Robert has led the ensemble through its musical growth, permeated with good times, terrific humour and high energy while at the same time teaching the art of performance. Robert is a Canadian/Australian pianist, singer and songwriter. He works as a professional Music Director, pianist, accompanist, vocalist, and repertoire coach. After moving back to Canada, and prior to moving to Toronto, he taught at the Music Theatre Performance Program at St. Lawrence College in Brockville, Ontario (2005-2011) and continues to freelance with Sheridan College, Randolph Academy, George Brown College, and The Etobicoke School of the Arts. He continues to work as a Music Director since moving to Toronto three years ago - most recently with “Anne and Gilbert at the Guild Theatre in Charlottetown. Robert also performs with his band, "The Fairest and Best", around the GTA. To catch his band, "the most eclectic and odd looking band in Canada", visit www.robertgraham.org and www.thefairestandbest.com. Robert feels that "singing is one of the best things you can do" and he encourages you to think about joining Resa's Pieces Singers- especially if you are a male singer!"

Resa Kochberg Growing up there was nothing else Resa wanted to do but study music. After graduating in 1974 with a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Toronto, Resa taught as a Band Music Specialist for the Scarborough Board of Education until she put teaching on hold to start a family. While raising her three children, she had a “cottage industry” clothing business and taught private piano lessons. Eighteen years later, Resa returned to teaching for the Toronto District School Board where she also conducted the Concert Band for Toronto Music Camps and led workshops as a flute specialist. For three years Resa had the privilege of conducting and co-conducting the Toronto East All City Band. During her 18 year hiatus from music, Resa abandoned playing her flute and piccolo. She now plays again, and performs with the North York Concert Band and the Encore Symphonic Band. Resa’s past sixteen years have been one of her greatest joys as she shares her love of music with all the dedicated members of Resa’s Pieces. Along with conducting Resa’s Pieces Concert Band and sharing in its accomplishments over the years, Resa is delighted that both Resa’s Pieces String Ensemble and Resa's Pieces Singers are flourishing. She also takes pride in the establishment of Resa’s Pieces Symphony Orchestra. Resa was recently honoured with an Urban Hero Award, given to people in the community whose personal efforts and contributions have made significant impact to others. In her spare time, Resa, together with her husband Marshall, are devoted grandparents to their five cherished grandchildren.
We Salute Resa For Her Enthusiasm, Energy And Direction. Best Wishes On Our 16th Gala Tonight!
