Omega-3s, also called essential fatty acids or “good fats”, are derived from various animal foods, seafoods, and algae.

Research has shown that they are essential for supporting a healthy heart, brain, and the body’s natural inflammatory response system. Res-Q omega-3s are sourced from fresh, coldwater fish and are intended to provide your body with the necessary building blocks for optimal overall health.

Why You Need DHA: DHA is the most abundant omega-3 in the brain and retina. Cells in your body use it to communicate with each other. DHA is important to brain development and function.

There is a plant-based omega-3 called ALA, but the benefits occur after your body converts it to EPA and DHA. The conversion process of ALA is not nearly as efficient as getting EPA and DHA directly from fish oil, as your body may be busy converting other fats, like omega-6. On average, only 1 to 10 percent of ALA is converted to EPA and 0.5 to 5 percent is converted into DHA. So, what is an omega-6?

The Standard American Diet (SAD) is high in omega-6 fatty acids compared to essential omega-3s. Omega-6s are found in vegetable oils, corn, soybean oils, and various seeds. The National Library of Medicine found that excessive amounts of omega-6 can increase the chances of cardiovascular, inflammatory, and autoimmune diseases. Let’s Talk About CBD!

Our content writer questioned Dr. Melissa Josselson, ND about the who, what, where, when, and why of CBD. This is what the Doctor said: How long has CBD been around? Longer than we think?

CBD was discovered in 1940, although humans have been cultivating cannabis sativa for well over 5,000 years. Experiments were conducted in the 1940s and 1950s to test the various extracts of cannabis. Research into CBD’s therapeutic oils gained momentum in the 1980s, when scientists began to research CBD’s effect on epilepsy.

CBD oil as we know it, has become widely available in the last few years. Its mass marketing and widespread use coincided with the legalization movement in 2018.

How can CBD improve sleep?

Research has shown CBD can improve both falling and staying asleep. While more research needs to be conducted about specific mechanism of actions, there are two main areas that have come into focus thus far. CBD may lower cortisol levels and decrease inflammation. Elevated cortisol and inflammation (and accompanying pain) in the body can contribute to insomnia.

Anxiety disorders and other mental health disorders can have devastating impacts on overall health and well-being, how does CBD address these?

CBD has been shown to have a positive effect on mood disorders, including anxiety and depression. Animal research offers evidence that the anxiolytic, or anxiety-lowering, and anti-depressive effects of CBD involve the serotonin receptor 5-HT1A. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that regulates mood. Low levels of serotonin have been associated with mood disorders, including anxiety and depression.

Some research has linked CBD with several benefits for heart health, can CBD lower high blood pressure?

Some studies have suggested that CBD can lower blood pressure. A 2020 study found that CBD may have vasodilatory effects in human and rat arteries. The authors suggested CBD may improve blood flow as it widens blood vessels, which can lower blood pressure. A study in 2017, found that a single dose of CBD lowered blood pressure in individuals who were at rest and under stress.

Can CBD be helpful for relieving anxiety and depression in people who have a dependence on certain drugs?

CBD has shown promise in benefiting issues associated with substance abuse. In one study, individuals that received CBD medication reported less craving after being exposed to the drug cues compared with individuals receiving placebo. In addition, the same individuals that received CBD reported less anxiety after being exposed to drug cues compared with individuals who received placebo. While more research is needed, CBD may be a helpful strategy to help curb addiction.

The World Health Organization has stated that there has been no evidence of public health-related problems associated with the use of pure CBD, could you highlight the importance of a pure CBD product?
