The host institution may nominate PhD candidates or young postdoctoral fellows (in similar areas as mentioned earlier) to be a part of the fellowship. Nominated candidates will be expected to submit a research proposal and undergo the selection process. Ashoka University and China India Foundation will connect them to suitable host institutions in India.

Through their visit, the fellows will work with host institutions that will guide and support them in their study. These institutions will serve as a nodal point for the fellow(s) they host. The fellows, at the time of applying for the fellowship, will directly reach out to potential host institutions that match their area of study. Impact of the Fellowship

Ashoka University and China India Foundation will create alumni programming and build an alumni network to ensure that fellows remain connected to each other. Fellows across the years will be able to continue to learn from each other’s experiences, insights, and perspectives on China. Alumni will be encouraged to participate in future events, lectures, and other activities undertaken by China India Foundation.

WE IMAGINE THE FELLOWSHIP TO LEAD TO: • Roundtable discussions, working groups, public presentations, and lectures increasing knowledge about China in India.

The fellowship provides an opportunity to fellows to build their expertise and research with respect to China, which is arguably one of the most important partners for India in the 21st century. Ashoka University and China India Foundation will assist the fellows in disseminating their findings and presenting them to relevant policy makers and influencers. China India Foundation will additionally publish a working paper series of the work produced by the fellows.

• Opportunities for Chinese scholars and partners to visit and research in India. • Fellows with more China experience can also undertake larger goals, such as publishing books and other kinds of material apart from their research. • Fellows can document their own experience of working with their counterparts in China through digital properties such as blogs and videos. • Fellows may continue their study and submit it to leading academic journals. • Fellows with promising outcomes may receive further funding from Ashoka University and China India Foundation.

WE ENVISION THAT:

The fellowship will increase the number of Indian scholars with China-related knowledge in specific areas of study and further create opportunities for collaboration.

It will provide important lessons from China’s development experience and the collaboration will eventually produce high quality academic and scholarly products.

By inviting scholars from China to India, the fellowship will also increase understanding of India in China and create networking opportunities for young academics in both countries.
