Garth Stein will appear at Tahoe WordWave gathering at the Tallac Historic Site in South Lake Tahoe. His latest book A Sudden Light is set in a large historic house in the woods similar to Valhalla’s Grand Hall, the site of Tall Timber Ball, WordWave’s Friday night steampunk ball on Friday, Oct. 9, kicking off at 6pm with a champagne reception with Stein. Eldorado Gr Eat ItalIan FEst

The 34th annual festival, held each year during Columbus Day weekend, is a celebration of Italian culture and traditions. Downtown Reno transforms into Little Italy for the weekend, complete with a grape stomp, sauce cookers’ competition, wine walk, an Italian farmers’ market, children’s gelato-eating contest, traditional Italian fare and live entertainment including performances by Ray Massa’s Eurorhythms, Moreno Fruzzetti, Primo Basso, Aaron Caruso and Italy’s Capuano n’T Rock, as well as the cast from Saltoriya performing acts from their show. Festival gates are open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11, along Third, Fourth and Virginia streets outside of the Eldorado Resort Casino, 345 N. Virginia St. Admission is free. Pasta-tasting bowls will be sold for $3 at the pasta booth on the corner of Fourth and Virginia streets from noon to 4 p.m. on both days.
