The 20th annual festival features live entertainment, barbecue and beer from more than 40 breweries. The 96th annual “Wildest, Richest Rodeo in the West” features a cattle drive, Xtreme Bull Riding, mutton bustin’, steer wrestling, barrel racing, drill team competition, a parade through downtown Reno, carnival rides and other attractions. The event kicks off on Thursday, June 18, with the noontime arrival of the cattle drive onto the fairgrounds of RenoSparks Livestock Events Center, followed by Xtreme Bull Riding at 7 p.m. The rodeo continues daily through Saturday, June 27, at the Livestock Events Center, 1350 N. US Open of Watercross
Nevada Humanities Chautauqua
The 10th annual competition is round three of the Pro Watercross Tour, the country’s premier watercross racing circuit that showcases the top professional and amateur athletes in the sport of personal watercraft racing. Competitors will vie for the title of Sparks US Open of Watercross Champion and a chance to qualify for The Pro Watercross World Championship finals in Naples, Fla., in September. The opening ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, followed by amateur racing from 10:40 a.m. to 2 p.m. Professional racing takes place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The competition continues on Sunday, June 21, with amateur racing starting at 9:15 a.m., followed by professional racing from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The watercross competition takes place at Sparks Marina, 325 Harbor Cove Drive, Sparks. Nevada Humanities’ 24th annual celebration will touch on the topic of “The Wilderness.” “A Day of Young Chautauqua” features performances by local youth who have participated in Nevada Humanities’ 2015 Great Basin Young Chautauqua program. There will also be a barbecue and live music. The free show begins at 9 a.m. on Sunday, June 21. Mainstage evening shows begin on Tuesday, June 23, and run through Thursday, June 25. Highlights include a program by author Carine McCandless, as well as Chautauqua performances by Hank Fincken as J. Goldsborough Bruff, Doug Mishler as J. Hector St. John Crèvecoeur, Fiona Reid as Rachel Carson and Doug Hulmes as John Muir. Local musical performances begin at 6 p.m., followed by Chautauqua presentations at 7 p.m. All shows take place at the Robert Z.
