The Children's Cabinet Tethers
The Wilbur May Foundation has been a longstanding supporter of GRBR for over 25 years! Since 1993, they have been partners with The Children's Cabinet to bring beautiful shaped balloons to the event and provide rides to the children they support. This year, it is Bila and Humpty Dumpty being tethered!
Pilot Trading Cards
Another great excuse to wander around and look at each and every balloon at the event! Each balloon pilot will have their own trading card which includes a photo of the balloon they are flying and a GRBR fun fact on the back! Can you collect them all?
E.L. Cord Foundation
TISSUE PAPER BALLOON LAUNCH
In 1999, a school teacher – who also happened to be a balloon pilot – started a project to show students how hot-air balloons worked. What started as a project involving 100 students, now involves thousands of 5th grade students from Washoe County School District and surrounding regions. Students learn about STEM, and with the use of mini-burners, they're able to launch their colorful, handmade balloons, and watch their creations lift off.
The event uses lighter-than-air flight to demonstrate the interdisciplinary applications of science, physics, math, art, music, history, and meteorology. This project encourages and strengthens students' listening skills, following directions, taking initiative, working in a team environment, and practices patience. It's a vehicle for K-12 teachers to achieve desired learning outcomes and meet state/local curriculum standards in a fun and rewarding way.
The purpose of the program is to get children involved in the community, incorporate science into the classroom, without increasing out-of-pocket expenses for teachers, or place stress on the budget of Washoe County School District.
The Tissue Paper Balloon Launch is not only a wonderful way to get children involved, but also a way to get organizations in the community to help out and be a part of a Reno tradition.

And many more!
While we love animals, we hate to see them spooked by all the people and unpredictable sounds that the balloons make.
This is a great opportunity to try transit with your family and friends to one of the region’s favorite event. To plan your trip, visit rtcwashoe.com.
DON'TSMOKEAROUNDBALLOONS
Besides propane being flammable, cigarette ash damages balloons, causing a real danger to the pilots once they are in the air, and others nearby.
Please try not to step on the balloon material and move if instructed to do so by a pilot, crew member or launch director.

BALLOON TRIVIA!
HOW MUCH DO YOU KNOW ABOUT BALLOONS? TEST YOUR KNOWLEDGE, AND THEN SHARE YOUR BALLOON WHITS WITH FRIENDS!
When was the first hot air balloon built?
1783 - making them the oldest form of human flight!
Where is the world's largest free hot air ballooning event?
The Great Reno Balloon Race, of course!
What is the average temperature of the inside of a hot air balloon during flight? A rooster, a duck, and a sheep! Usually around 250 degrees!
Who were the first passengers to ride in a hot air balloon?
What assistance have hot air balloons provided during war?
During the French Revolution, hot air balloons were tethered to the ground to get a better view of the enemy line.
True or false: there was once a hot air balloon built with a glass bottom.
TRUE! In 2010, a man named Christian Brown debuted a glass-bottomed balloon at the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta
Based on the Disney movie 'Up', how many balloons would it take to lift up a house?
It would take about 12 million balloons for a house to lift off the ground!
Can hot air balloons fly in the rain?
No! The rain hitting the balloons materials would boil from the heat inside the balloon causing the material to rip.
Nowhere else on the field can you experience the comfort of sitting in a clear, heated tent with a 360-degree view!
