So Swagged out SHOW YOUR GRBR LOVE

DAWN PATROL

Since its introduction, Dawn Patrol has become a significant part of The Great Reno Balloon Race, and this year is no exception. The team of 7 highly trained and talented pilots synchronize their balloons through dark atmospheric conditions to put on an amazing show. In order for Dawn Patrol pilots to fly, they must maintain a level flight while dealing with various responsibilities to uphold the safety of everyone around them. These pilots have no easy task going through these steps, all while communicating with each other to ensure a fantastic performance. It takes a dedicated team of pilots to make sure Dawn Patrol goes smoothly, safely, and spectacularly. GET YOUR 2021 APPAREL

GRBR partnered with local business, Swizzle, to create fun, eyecatching products for all ages. The merchandise tent features apparel for men, women and children, as well as calendars, accessories, and other not-to-be missed items, including the 40th Anniversary pins. All pins have been designed by GRBR pilot, Tim Taylor! Official merchandise will only be available during the event so don't miss out! The merchandise tent is located on Balloon Boulevard, south of the announcer's stage.

It Takes a Community 40 years of tradition continues as The Great Reno Balloon Race (GRBR) soars into Reno for one of Northern Nevada's most beloved events that connects to it's community. Knights of Columbus This charitable men's organization is responsible for our traffic logistics management. The Knights of Columbus has made $177,500,673 in donations to the community and has contributed almost 75 million hours of community service. The Knights of Columbus has made their impact through helping others in many ways, including offering financial assistance to families with disabled, ill, or needy members. Girl and Boy Scouts of Sierra Nevada These popular community service organizations for kids looking to get involved in their community are here to help The Great Reno Balloon Race yet again. These groups are working to make the world a better place, as well as our event, by helping us keep our park clean. The scouts teach its members how to make ethical and moral decisions and help instill leadership qualities in our youth. Go check out both of their booths to get involved in these amazing organizations.

15

It Takes a Community Wilbur May Foundation Not only does the Wilbur May Foundation have an amazing museum at the park, but they are one of our amazing partners that plays a huge part of putting this event on each year. The Wilbur May Foundation loves to help any cause involving children, as its founder, Wilbur D. May, had a passion for children and helping them succeed. That makes them a perfect partner for this family friendly event. Make sure to stop by the Wilbur D. May Museum during the event for free admission. Combat Sport and Fitness The GRBR Rangers are a volunteer mobile security team during the event, head up by Nina Roseburrough. Most of the GRBR Rangers on the field study at Combat Sport and Fitness. UNR Scholarship Fund The University Balloon Race Scholarship Committee has been in existence since 1986 and has awarded scholarship funds since the early 1990s. The University Balloon Race Scholarships have been distributed each year since 1999. The committee exists to raise the money to award two scholarships a year; one to an undergraduate student and one to a graduate student.

2021 Balloons and Pilots Ever since 1783 when the first hot air balloon rose over the fields of France carrying a duck, a sheep and a rooster as passengers, we've been fascinated with flying lighter than air. The men and women who are invited to fly in The Great Reno Balloon Race are not only expert pilots, but they are avid enthusiasts. Most, if not all, love their sport and are eager to talk with fans. When you see them on the field with their beautiful craft, ask questions, but please don't get in the way if they're preparing for flight. Also, don't forget to say 'thanks for coming to our wonderful event!'

Get involved

A writer once said, "Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart." That is exactly what our group of over 150 Aeronauts have in common - heart. They are an incredibly diverse group of people but they all share the same profound passion for this event. In the months and weeks leading up to the event, our volunteers spent countless hours recruiting new members, and attending crew trainings and monthly Aeronaut meetings. The entire group is broken down into five committees so Aeronauts can choose the one they are most passionate about: Responsible for the managing and selling of official GRBR product at our merchandise tent. MERCHANDISE:

Responsible for the planning, set-up and management of our famous Cloud 9 VIP tent.

CLOUD 9:

Responsible for the set-up/tear-down of tents on the field and making sure the field is clean and safe during the event.

FIELD:

Gets a thrilling firsthand experience by helping our pilot's crew during the event.

CREWING:

They provide the event with an additional layer of protection, RANGERS: security, and customer service to our fans. There is a spot for anyone interested in joining this group of passionate individuals! If you are interested in becoming a volunteer for next year's event, please visit our website at RenoBalloon.com. We also want to recognize our many other amazing community partners, volunteers, and fellow non-profits that make this event so special!

Kids make our world go 'round The Great Reno Balloon Race has been bringing joy and excitement to the community for 40 years, and it’s biggest success is the continued efforts to give back to the kids. Whether it be providing an unforgettable experience at the event or giving back to the children in our community, The Great Reno Balloon Race strives to keep those smiles big and bright! HERE ARE SOME “KID-FRIENDLY” FEATURES THIS YEAR

E.L. Cord Foundation Tissue Paper Balloon Launch The Great Reno Balloon Race’s Tissue Paper Balloon Launch is held on Friday, September 10th at 9:30a.m. on the launch field. Students from Washoe County School District will launch colorful handmade hot air balloons that they created in their classrooms. This special program is made possible by the E.L. Cord Foundaton The Children’s Cabinet Tethers The Wilbur May Foundation has been such an amazing supporter of The Great Reno Balloon Race for over 25 years! Since 1994, they have partnered with The Children’s Cabinet to bring beautiful special shaped balloons to the event and give rides to the children they help support. This year, it will be Allycorn and Kermie being tethered! Don’t miss it! Pilot Cards As if you needed another excuse to wander through the balloons… each balloon pilot will have their own trading card! These pilot cards will have a picture of the balloon they are flying as well as some fun Great Reno Balloon Race facts on the back! Can you collect them all?

37

E.L. Cord Foundation Tissue paper balloon launch The Tissue Paper Balloon Launch is a special addition that started in 1999. A school teacher, who was also a balloon pilot, had originally started this project as a way to teach students how hot-air balloons worked. The project began with 100 students and now, upwards of 2,000 5th grade students from Washoe County School District and surrounding regions participate in this event to learn about STEM. With the use of mini-burners, the students are able to launch their colorful, handmade balloons and see their creations lift off. The event uses lighter-than-air flight to demonstrate to students the practical and interdisciplinary applications of earth and space science, physics, math, art, music, history, and meteorology. It encourages and strengthens the students' skills in listening, following directions, taking initiative, and working in a team environment, practicing patience, and being attentive to detail. It provides a vehicle for K-12 teachers to achieve their desired learning outcomes and meet state and local curriculum standards in a fun and rewarding way. The purpose of this program is to get children involved in their community and incorporate science into the classroom, without increasing out-of-pocket expenses for teachers or placing stress on the budget of the Washoe County School District and the surrounding regions. The Tissue Paper Balloon Launch program is not just a wonderful way to get children involved but also a way to get organizations in the community to help out and be part of a Reno tradition.

Enjoy the event SPECTATOR TIPS

PLEASE LEAVE YOUR PETS AT HOME.

We love animals but hate to see them

spooked by all the people and unpredicatable sounds that the balloons make.

HELP THE PILOTS OUT.

Please don't step on the balloon material and move if

instructed to do so by a pilot, crew member or launch director. DO NOT SMOKE AROUND THE BALLOONS.

Besides the obvious flammable

properties of propane, cigarette ashes damage balloons. This can create a real danger to the pilots once they are in the air, and also endangers others who are nearby. Smoking is prohibited on the launch field.

REMEMBER THAT BALLOONS CANNOT BE STEERED ONCE AIRBORNE.

Stay aware of all the balloons around you and their direction once airborne. USE RTC RIDE'S PARK & RIDE PROGRAM.

Don't Drive, Arrive! to The Great

Reno Balloon Race. RTC will be adding extra service to the RAPID Virginia Line on September 10, 11, and 12 from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. and extending the route to Rancho San Rafael Park. Passengers may park and ride for free specifically from the Reno-Sparks Convention Center parking lot with service every 15 minutes to the park. ARRIVE EARLY AS THERE IS LIMITED PARKING AT THE EVENT SITE.

Park for free at the University's north lots, but remember that cars must be removed by 10 a.m. Parking will be available at the corner of N. Sierra St. and McCarran Blvd. as well as the Coleman lot at the North West end of the park.

43

Explore luxury with cloud 9 vip The Cloud 9 VIP Club is the perfect way to enjoy the beauty of the event with comfort and convenience. Located on the southeast end of the launch field, the club gives you the optimal viewing experience. Make your Great Reno Balloon Race experience an unforgettable one as you watch balloons from within your own heated, clear tent. Mingle with old friends and meet some new ones along the way! As a Cloud 9 VIP Club member, you can enjoy these amazing perks: VIP parking with shuttle transportation to the VIP tent Catered breakfast hosted by Silver Legacy at THE ROW GRBR champagne glasses - available only at the VIP tent Open bar with drinks for adults (non-alcoholic for children, of course!)
