1938: Doctors and dentists tee it up; Drs. McCann and Galligan share first SEPTEMBER 12, 1913
OLGA LEWIS From the Old Files morning the new pavement in front of the post office will be ready for use. DOCTORS AND DENTISTS HOLD THIRD ANNUAL TOURNAMENT: The third annual golf tournament of Ottawa Valley physicians and dentists was held Wednesday at Renfrew golf links. About two score participated in the sociality offered by this annual gettogether. Lunch was partaken after which the golf tournament began for the Tario Cup which is emblematic of the championship of this professional group. Dr. McCann and Dr. Galligan tied in the contest and they were declared joint winners. Low gross for the day was won by Dr. Mulvihill; low gross first nine by Dr. McKerracher; second Dr. Joyner; low net Dr. Tario; second Dr. McCormack; hidden hole Dr. Reid; consolation Dr. Beach. Dinner was enjoyed after the game.

RE-ESTABLISHING BUSINESS IN RENFREW: Mr. Allan Derry, after five years experience “on the road” for the Guiney Foundry Co. of Toronto, makers of heating and plumbing supplies, has come to the conclusion that the stability of home is preferable to the everchanging aspect of a traveller; and has decided also that no place that he knows shows indication of steadier growth than the town of Renfrew. Hence his decision to engage here, again in the plumbing and heating business; having this week undertaken a list of orders for installation of plumbing and heating systems here in town. In his recent line of business he has had opportunity to keep abreast of the latest advances in plumbing and heating installations and is prepared to give good service to those who want the greatest comfort in their houses. JUDGES AT ARNPRIOR FAIR: Arnprior was favored with fine weather for both days of its fair, Thursday and Friday last. The show of horses also was good and the attendance reasonable. During the year the directors have built a new horse and poultry shed, the big ones below, the cacklers above; and Mr. Donald Frood of Renfrew had the honour of doing the first judging of the first poultry show in our neighbour town. There were some good birds on show, but not a great deal of competition.
may be sold at the end of the month. He added until that happens employees will retain their jobs. Some offers of purchase have also indicated all staff could be kept on. Beamish has laid off between 30 and 50 employees across Ontario since the company went into receivership. Stores in Pembroke and South Porcupine have also been closed, while stores in New Liskeard, Cochrane and Cornwall were sold. MIDWAY WORKER WINS HALF TON: A Conklin Shows midway employee was the big winner at the Renfrew Fair last Sunday afternoon. Robert Morris of Cambridge, Ont., drove the half ton truck out of Renfrew Monday morning. The truck was raffled off by the Lions Club. Bryan Scheuneman, 219 Jeanette Street, Renfrew won the Junior Farmers baby beef draw. A
