Miracle or garden phenomenon Christine McNaughton’s Lynn Street garden has two rhubarb patches. One is like most rhubarb patches in your garden. The other has 24” by 28” leaves. According to McNaughton, both make delicious pies and rhubarb crumple. Christine says both patches were fed Miracle-Gro plant helper, so how can you explain the huge overgrowth in one? She suggests that, “Perhaps we could call it a Miracle-Gro garden phenomenon? You decide.” In late spring, Christine’s garden was filled with saucer-size poppies. She said everyone who sees them wants a pod. A pod holds hundreds of seeds. Maybe she’s the miracle.

Community - It’ll be a big year for the 433 (Champlain) Wing of the Air Force Association of Canada as members look toward their 60th anniversary celebrations May 14, 2014. Renfrew’s 59th Charter Night was held June 17 in the Roundel Lounge. President Dan Duchene said it is important for the association to continue to support the air cadets and their other local causes, and support the community at Remembrance Day and other events. “By doing so, we will be filling the aims and objectives of our association,” Duchene said. “I encourage all members to be as engaged as much as they wish to be, not only in volunteering, but even in dialogue to provide solutions or suggestions.” Duchene saluted full-time and part-time employees and

volunteers at the Wing. As of July 1, the Wing is reverting back to its previous name of the Royal Canadian Air Force Association, Duchene noted. “We are happy with that,” the president added. “I look forward to the upcoming year. It’s very gratifying when we get to recognize our members.” He said regardless of the occasion, the 433 Wing always comes together for their own. Duchene said he hopes to see everyone out to the Wing’s general meeting on Monday, Sept. 16. The 2013-14 executive was introduced: president Dan Duchene, past president Ron Price, first vice Pat Soucy, second vice Marie Wojick, third vice Suzanne Lachambre, fourth vice Jack Porter, office manager and treasurer Norm Ilan, and secretary Joan Price. Milestone membership pins were also presented for years of service.
