< SIP 19 workshop BC Architects & CIVA & VAi April 2019

Introduction to the the different building techniques of raw earth and creation of the various samples for the expo «The act of building», about the architectural practice of BC Architects, during a workshop week at ULB.

Au quai workshop > EASA BE & Saintklet August 2020

Creation of a shading structure for a temporary summer bar along the canal in Brussels during a 3-day workshop.

< Ungers Summer School KUL & Ungers Archive & Kunstakademie Düsseldorf July 2021

Focus on Ungers’ Self-Help Housing project as well as his research project «Communes in the New World», with as a result a small exhibition comparing different community projects.

AUA workshops > Urban Foxes & Kind en Samenleving March-May 2022

Participation to workshops of the Academy of Urban Action in Brussels, whose main goal is to involve motivated youth in the process of thinking and making the city, with a sub-workshop about the place of women in public space.

The platform is punctuated by different public functions.

A café is integrated with the commuters needs in mind. It’s a place for either coffee on the go or either a relaxed meeting with friends on the roof terrace.

The pockets are used for the ticket booth and as a gateway to the cinema rooms downstairs. As they don’t need windows, they are perfect for an underground use.

Wine cellars could benefit from the stable conditions of the underground and further boost the life around the gallery, also later at night.

An inner gallery is created for the pedestrians and commuters in the center of the platform and a bike path on top of the metro tracks allows for a faster transit of cyclists.

Based on the 2,80m grid of the door system, small pockets of public functions and waiting hubs are added alongside the gallery. The depths of those pockets vary along the walk to create sequences of space, as to shorten the perceived distance while still having a straight passage through the tunnel. The system is expanded up and down, making way for larger public functions.

The project is a potential scenario in a framework, set to evolve over time.

The site is steep, with rocky and sandy areas and little vegetation. The rocky areas are kept as green zones and terraces are designed in the more sandy parts. The preschool is located higher up, to boost the use of the large playground.

The two classrooms are oriented north-south, and have wide openings towards their patio, for optimal ventilation.

The small classroom is connected with the highest courtyard through two windows. The window sill becomes a table inside and provides a seating area for the children outside.

The different play areas grow more intimate the further you go up the preschool.

The school is located along a road. A smaller path is built into the woods next to the site, leading to the preschool.

The path continues into the preschool itself.

The biggest classroom is oriented along the north southaxis. The smaller classroom is oriented east-west, to keep the existing trees.

The biggest classroom is split in two levels, with a main access through the patio at the level of the primary school and a connection to the lower patio of the smaller classroom.

^ Inplantingsmaquette 1/500 Door een compact gebouw te plaatsen en een grote publieke plaats te genereren, wordt de site omgevormd van een doorstroomruimte naar een rustpunt in de stad langs de Brugse Vaart.

Om een sterkere relatie te ontwikkelen met het water, wordt de plaats op twee niveau’s bedacht. De verschillende publieke functies worden rond de twee grote aula’s georganiseerd.

Het FabLab bevindt zich onder de kleine aula en loopt uit op een kleine publieke plaats.

Via een vide wordt licht tot de onderste verdieping gebracht.

De bibliotheek geniet van grotere en intiemere studieplekken.

De zonnewering zorgt voor een gezellige sfeer binnen en een dynamisch ritme in de gevel.

De cafetaria bevindt zich op twee niveau’s, die elk een buitenruimte hebben. Het terras van de bar ligt aan het kanaal.

Le projet débute avec l’épinglage des 4 premiers objets à travers la mise en place de points d’arrêt, répartis dans l’entité.

Ces points sont matérialisés à travers des bornes sur le territoire, invitant les habitants à marquer ce temps d’arrêt, à faire un pas de côté dans leur quotidien. Cette collection de points s’étofferait d’année en année, les habitants complétant la liste grâce à leur connaissance plus fine du territoire.

Lors des visites aux points désignés, chaque participant est invité à prendre une photo et à la poster sur le site du projet.

Les photos deviennent ici les témoins d’un lieu à travers le temps, sous forme d’une collection d’instants individuels. Les différentes photos rassemblées sur le site permettraient d’attester de l’intérêt (ou non) des habitants pour la démarche et permettraient de visualiser de manière plus tangible l’évolution de l’objet à travers les années.

Collage

La mise en réseau de ces objets permet d’élargir le champ de réfléxion sur leur place dans le futur de Morlawnwelz. La collection des photos rassemblées formerait alors une matière, un support pour un débat plus éclairé sur la place de ces objets dans l’entité.

Le premier objet est le moulin Stoclet. Ayant perdu ses ailes il y a bien longtemps, ce n’est plus qu’un objet dans le territoire. Juste hors de la limite de l’entité, il participe au paysage de Morlanwelz.

Le chassis-à-molette est un des derniers témoins du passé minier de la région. Il se situe en dehors de l’entité administrative mais participe à la perception du territoire en tant que point de repère.

La tour de l’orphelinat est le dernier vestige du bâtiment détruit par les flammes il y a bien des années. Inutilisée, inutilisable, elle trône néanmoins du haut du plateau de Morlanwelz.

La maison du peintre Alexandre-Louis Martin, célèbre dans Morlanwelz, a été sauvegardée mais tombe lentement en ruine. Construite en bois peint, elle semble avoir été posée là par hasard, perdue au milieu d’habitations plus récentes.

Le théâtre se situe sur la partie basse de la place de Moscou, avec le parvis de St-Gilles qui se trouve à l’ouest et un petit parc au sud.

Le bâtiment vient s’intégrer dans la place en s’encaissant dans la pente existante.

La longue pente d’accès et la scène extérieure en gradins forment des places que le public peut s’approprier.

Les croquis représentent la situation existante, du petit kiosque publicitaire au marché hebdomadaire implanté entre les arbres.
