In this issue, we’ve included thoughtful ideas, expert advice, and inspiration to help you bring your vision to life.
Our fashion feature was photographed at the legendary Arnaud’s, a French Quarter institution known for its elegance. With its gilded details, and old-world charm, Arnaud’s provided the perfect setting to showcase modern bridal looks with classic New Orleans charm.
We also explore the season’s standout trends, from gowns and accessories to beauty and skincare strategies that help brides feel their best. Our writers have pulled together guidance on venues, transportation, and the best spots in and around the city to capture engagement photos that feel both personal and memorable.
We dive into the role music can play throughout the entire wedding experience, not just during the ceremony or reception, but in moments you may not have thought about, like welcoming guests at cocktail hour or setting the tone for your getaway.
Our cocktail and culinary features focus on smaller moments that can have a big impact. First, our guide to low-ABV cocktails offers creative options for couples who want to serve drinks that are festive and flavorful, without packing a high-proof punch. We also shine a spotlight on the often-overlooked farewell brunch. It’s the last official gathering of the weekend and a chance to slow down, connect with guests, and say a proper goodbye before heading off into married life.
Finally, we highlight honeymoon destinations designed with animal lovers in mind — places that offer opportunities to connect with wildlife in meaningful ways.
And as always, we feature beautiful local weddings, aiming to bring you inspiration that’s useful and exciting.
Cheers!

WEDDING CENTRAL
The Blackbird Hotel, and its sister properties, the Garden District Hotel and another that is yet to be named, form a “neighborhood” on Prytania Street that is ideal for wedding parties. The Blackbird Hotel, which opened last fall, features luxury art-deco-inspired Southern gothic decor (designed by Jeannine Jacob, along with the other two properties) and is a great fit for groomsmen. Meanwhile, the Garden District Hotel has a massive pool (with New Orleans’ first and only swim-up pool bar), 47 guest rooms (half of which have private lofts and the ability to sleep four guests) and is perfect for wedding guests. The newest unnamed property, which features all white-on-white dècor, complete with a Bridal Suite, is a lovely home base for bridesmaids. Each hotel also features wedding spaces, including outdoor space at The Blackbird Hotel, indoor and outdoor space at the Garden District Hotel and a garden for smaller weddings of up to 40 guests at the unnamed property. “Brides love the ability to mix and match their events across the properties to feel as if they’re at different venues but with the convenience of never having to drive,” says Jen Grosso, manager at The Blackbird Hotel. 1612 Prytania St., 504-383-7500, theblackbirdnola.com; 1525 Prytania St., 504-383-9500, gdhnola.com
ARTFUL KEEPSAKES
BRIDAL BAUBLES
Locally based Mignon Faget has released its Knots & Bows collection, featuring ribbons that never fray, bows that are perfectly preserved and banners frozen in timeless precious metals. The Knots Collection, which was first launched in 1976, pays homage to the art of sailors’ knot-making, while the Bows Collection, introduced in 1980, was designed to resemble flowing fabric. The reinvented Knots & Bows pieces, which are perfect for wedding party gifts, flaunt peach freshwater pearls, peach biwa freshwater pearls, faceted chocolate moonstone and smoky quartz. Top picks include the Oysters Rockefeller Necklace crafted with lapis, malachite, red coral and white freshwater pearls in either sterling silver or 14K gold. Another highlight? The collection also features men’s styles like the Legacy Leather Cord Necklace that comes in either sterling silver or 14K gold. 3801 Magazine St., 504-891-2005, mignonfaget.com
COOKING CLASSES
Nolavore, a full-service catering company, specialty foods storefront and commissary kitchen, offers cooking classes for bridal parties. The classes accommodate six to 12 guests and can include a variety of hors d’oeuvres, or dishes for a threecourse lunch/dinner or brunch. Current menu items include dishes like barbecue shrimp, crawfish empanadas and blueberry bread pudding with a white chocolate sauce. “We also offer dinner with wine pairings, and we have a representative from one of our wine merchants talk to the group about their offerings,” says Anne Lloyd, owner of Nolavore. 2139 Baronne St., 504-914-3161, nolavore.net
Artist Claire Hammock is hosting ceramics classes at AKA, offering a creative experience for bridal parties. The Bon Voyage Brunch
A Perfect Send-Off for the Happy Couple
BY AMY GABRIEL
If all goes as daydreamed, your wedding reception will be a beautiful blur of dizzying spins on the dance floor, joyful toasts, bountiful bites and celebratory embraces. Why stop the celebration there? Many modern couples are opting for an additional day-after brunch to keep the good times rolling and allow the blissful buzz to carry on through the next morning.
Kylie Edwards of Tujague’s Restaurant reflects that incorporating a farewell brunch is becoming progressively popular for a multitude of reasons.
“There has definitely been an increase in couples opting for a casual farewell brunch,” said Edwards. “In today’s wedding landscape celebrations often span an entire weekend, so the farewell brunch offers a relaxed and intimate extension of the festivities. The couples have a chance to wind down and enjoy meaningful moments with guests they may not have had time to connect with during the whirlwind of the reception.”
When deciding which fare to present after an evening of partying the night away, Jordan Breland, senior sales manager at Galatoire’s, suggests a mix of options to appeal to your peckish guests.
“No brunch is complete without the balance of savory and sweet items,” she advises. “For every fresh fruit display or round of beignets we may offer bagels and gravlax or eggs Benedict. Or guests may choose fried chicken and andouille gravy to pair with pain perdu or fresh pastries. This even applies to beverages – we’re serving up bloody marys in addition to brandy milk punches and mimosas.”
For guests who are unable to stay and enjoy the entire brunch spread, Breland suggests having a sweet finishing touch edible parting gift at the ready.
“Individually wrapped pralines are a great way to offer a sweet treat to those who can’t stay for the full meal, and they’re easy to customize by adding a sticker with the couple’s monogram or sweet note to their guests.”
Even if the brunch has a relaxed and casual tone, Caroline Oliver, senior sales manager at Galatoire’s, reminds that you can still wow your guests with creative presentation.
“Guests want buffets to feel elevated – more interesting servingware, buffet attendants rather than self-serve and custom buffet markers have grown in demand,” says Oliver, noting that a couple recently incorporated a personal touch by branding the toasted bread of a grilled cheese with their monogram. “Brunch foods are just easier to customize than other meals – think waffles, omelets, biscuits, and even grits stations can lend room for guests to get creative and tailor foods to their tastes.”
To take the brunch celebration to heightened levels, Christian Pendleton, general manager of Brennan’s, who has had requests for everything from black-truffled soft scrambled eggs and shaved French black truffle to crab and avocado toast with white sturgeon caviar and chive, believes the addition of the bon voyage brunch provides what he calls “a perfect bookend to the wedding weekend.”
He suggests incorporating a wow moment like a champagne sabering to round out the festivities for your remaining partygoers.
“A festive way to close out the wedding weekend is with a ceremonial champagne sabering for the ultimate celebratory wedding toast,” says Pendleton. “It leaves a lasting impression with guests and makes for a memorable way to begin the send-off of the happy couple!” b
Low AVB Options
An Inclusive Clink For All
BY AMY GABRIEL
While some of your wedding guests are cocktail enthusiasts, others imbibe only at times of celebration. Incorporating a mix of low-ABV (alcohol by volume) cocktails, spritzes and aperitivos to your reception bar setup will allow guests a range of sips that last a nighttime while you celebrate a love to last a lifetime.
Kylie Edwards of Tujague’s Restaurant has noticed a spike in couples looking to include a variety of lower-proof options for their guests to enjoy.
“It reflects a broader shift toward wellness and inclusivity,” says Edwards. “Low-ABV drinks are that perfect middle ground to make guests feel included without needing to choose between extremes. They’re ideal for older guests, non-drinkers or those who just want to enjoy a celebratory drink without overindulging. It’s thoughtful, stylish and very on-trend.”
From welcome cocktails to signature cocktail bars to second line sips, Edwards attests that these types of drinks would be perfect to incorporate throughout the reception in its entirety.
“A light, bubbly aperitivo is perfect for welcome drinks. It sets the tone without overwhelming guests early on.”
Moving further into the festivities, she suggests serving variants throughout the night by way of a low-proof “nightcap” like a vermouthforward Negroni twist.
Says Edwards of a second line suggestion, “A spritz in a to-go cup or mini bottled cocktail would be a fun, functional touch to keep spirits high but balanced.”
Though lower in alcohol than full-tilt cocktails, these options can still reflect the popular and established drinks known within the drinking culture of New Orleans.
“A few New Orleans classics adapt beautifully to low-ABV versions,” says Edwards, noting ideas like a French 75 with a bit more sparkling wine and a lower-proof liqueur instead of full-strength gin, as well as a riff on a Pimm’s Cup with house-made herbal syrups and cucumber.
Just because these drinks may have less of a kick, they can still be served beautifully.
Notes Edwards, “It’s all about the presentation; elegant glassware, vibrant garnishes - like fresh herbs, edible flowers or dehydrated citrus - and playful names that point back to the couple. A well-styled spritz in a coupe or Nick and Nora glass feels just as special as a traditional cocktail, if not more so.”
Muriel-Anna Altikriti, co-owner of Movers & Shakers, agrees that creative and beautiful presentation is essential to dressing up low-ABV drinks.
“The fun is in the garnishes and glassware,” says Altikriti. “Doing custom garnishes like fruit cut on the bias can make a drink look pretty and fancy.”
This calls to mind ideas like blackberry basil spritzes served in highball glasses topped with a fresh blackberry garnish and Aperol spritzes accented with orange wedges.
Altikriti suggests adding herbal liqueurs like amaro as a digestif to specialty bars. “They present well and are great palate cleansers.”
She notes that coming up with creative names for the lower alcohol version sips, perhaps naming them after the couple’s pet, hobbies or interests, can be a playful addition, noting once calling a varied version of an Old Fashioned “The Prof” inspired by the groom’s professorial title.
Says Altikriti, “It’s a celebration. Regardless of the alcohol content, everyone can and should still have a really good cocktail in their glass.” b

LONGUE VUE HOUSE AND GARDENS
Photographer Greer Gattuso says she likes to keep it classic when it comes to locations. Longue Vue House and Gardens is one of her go-tos. “It has the beautiful gardens, but it also has the buildings and the brick you could use in the background that makes it look more like a European garden,” says Gattuso. She says she often suggests Longue Vue as one of several locales featured in a gallery of photos she shares with the couple. But the photographer says she doesn’t identify the places featured in the images. “The clients don’t know which location is which, unless they’re from here,” she says. “And I tell them to pick what resonates with their personalities most.”
CITY PARK
It’s not unusual to see couples clad in casual attire or full wedding regalia traipsing around City Park with a photographer in tow. Photographer Ryan Gray of Shades of Gray Photography says it’s his top spot for variety. “You’ve got the classic oak trees, the peristyle’s romantic architecture, the wildflower field — which is an absolute showstopper, but only in spring when it’s really in bloom — the Botanical Gardens, and even the Sculpture Garden if your couple’s into something a little more artsy.” Within City Park, the New Orleans Museum of Art is part of that visual variety. Matt “Mateo” Diaz of Mateo & Co. favors the museum for its classic and timeless appeal. “The architecture alone gives such a sophisticated vibe,” says Diaz. “If you’re going for something classic, elegant and super versatile, NOMA really checks all the boxes.”
UPTOWN
While there are a lot of specific spots in Uptown couples could visit for a session, Gattuso loves to amble through the neighborhoods and shoot spontaneously. “I really treat it like they’re on a date and I’m kind of just following them around,” says Gattuso. The lush and varied landscape, stately homes, cobblestone sidewalks and wrought iron fences in Uptown make for the perfect backdrop. “A lot of people think of the streetcar, but I do think you can get the beautiful trees and architecture.” Bonus: Gattuso says there’s less foot traffic to fight through.
FRENCH QUARTER
Countless couples choose the French Quarter for their engagement photos and for good reason. It’s simply iconic and no two photos are ever going to be the same, even if they are shot in front of the same building. “It’s got that timeless New Orleans charm,” says Gray. “Color, texture, history, all wrapped up in one place. I suggest doing a session earlier in the day or first thing in the morning if you can pull it off. It’s quieter and the lighting is more neutral [and] soft.” For his French Quarter shoots, Diaz schedules time for a stop on Canal. “Canal Street is pure New Orleans energy,” says Diaz. “It’s lively, iconic and always gives you that little rush when you shoot there. I love sneaking into the middle of the street and catching a streetcar in the background — it’s just so classic. Whether you’re a local or just love the city, Canal gives you those perfectly candid, city-loving vibes every time.”
CREOLE CREAMERY
City Park isn’t the only game in town for couples who want a natural, romantic setting. “If City Park feels a bit overwhelming with all the options, Audubon keeps it simple,” says Gray. “That golden hour light near the Magazine [Street] side is always beautiful, quieter, and the park has this subtle rural feel — like you’ve driven out to the country, but you’re still right here in the city.”
THE MARIGNY OR THE CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT
CONTACTS
Greer Gattuso, info@greerg.com
The French Quarter and Uptown aren’t the only neighborhoods with signature flair. “If a couple is looking for something with personality, I’ll usually suggest the Marigny,” says Gray. “It’s fun, colorful, a little funky — and the textures are amazing.” Gray takes couples to busy, festive Frenchmen Street, as well as Crescent Park. “Crescent Park [is] just a few blocks away [with] a completely different look with skyline and river views,” says Gray. The Central Business District is a great option for couples who want urban vibes. Gray notes that it’s a lock for sleek, clean architecture and a vibrant city backdrop.

Speaking of icons, there are certain bars and eateries that lend themselves to photo sessions. Think the Carousel Bar at the Hotel Monteleone, Café du Monde or Hansen’s Sno-Bliz. The number of places in New Orleans with photo potential is seemingly limitless, whether it’s because a location is photogenic, historically important or meaningful to the couple. The latter was the case for one of Gattuso’s client couples. “They lived close to Creole Creamery, loved the ice cream and they would go there on dates,” says Gattuso. “I met them there with their dog and it’s just this really cool building. It was really fun. I do like it when couples give me that kind of information.”
WINDSOR COURT HOTEL
Perhaps because it’s a bit tucked away amid the hustle-andbustle of the CBD, the Windsor Court is one of Diaz’s favorite under-the-radar gems. “Whether it’s pouring or sunshine, this place delivers,” says Diaz. “You’ve got everything from moody lounges — hi, Polo Club vibes — to soft, romantic corners. The terrace upstairs is amazing too, if it’s available. It’s luxe but never over-the-top, and gives you that polished, editorial feel in every frame.”
MAGIC MOMENTS
While there is no shortage of stunning backdrops in New Orleans, as each photographer has shared, the best photos are those that are taken in places with meaning to the couple. “Your first date spot, the street you walked your dogs, your neighborhood park; that’s where the magic happens,” says Diaz. “Years from now, when those engagement photos are framed in your house, it’s those places that bring the feels flooding back. They ground you in a moment in time and tell your story way better than any trendy spot ever could.” b

10 Musical Moments
There are countless opportunities to incorporate music into your wedding and we have you covered.
BY MELANIE WARNER SPENCER
Between fun fads and tried-and-true traditions, there are more options than ever for wedding music. While personalized playlists curated by the couple and streamed into the rehearsal, ceremony or reception are both budget-friendly and potentially interactive (think pre-wedding guest requests), New Orleans is a music city filled with people who live for live music, DJs that deliver party vibes and professional musicians trained to create memorable musical moments. With that in mind, we’ve created a guide of the top 10 opportunities to incorporate music into your wedding with a taste of the talented pros here help you get (and stay) into the groove.
WELCOME PARTY
Your guests have arrived and it’s time for a gathering before the more formal festivities kick off. Welcome parties can be anything from a barbecue or crawfish boil to a pool or garden party. It’s usually on the casual side, but you do you. Here are a few bands that can vibe with your theme or just bring a little flavor to the fête. Panorama Jazz Band brings party vibes with its mix of Balkan and Latin America folk music, Jewish klezmer and other brass band music of the world, including New Orleans jazz. (panoramalandnola.com) If you aren’t quite sure what type of band to go with or if you are considering a DJ for your welcome party, working with an agency like BE Collective, which works with a host of local musicians and DJs, can take out the guesswork. (becollective.live) Think outside the band with Trixie Minx Productions for a gathering that could include a burlesque or drag performer, belly dancers or aerial acts and, well, you name it. trixieminx.com
REHEARSAL DINNER
Practice makes perfect and the night before your big day is a time not only for a quick run-through of the ceremony, but also a decadent meal with your nearest and dearest. Adding live music to the agenda will bring another layer of detail to the table and set the stage for tomorrow’s main event. A jazz or classical guitar soloist from Magnolia Entertainment is an elegant way to infuse live music without overshadowing dinner conversation. (magnolianola.com) Dinner is instantly elevated and imbued with soul when you book a singer like “New Orleans Songbird” Robin Barnes accompanied by a pianist or guitarist. robinbarnesmusic.com
PRE-CEREMONY
Most of us consider music for the ceremony itself, but the pre-ceremony time can be another opportunity to dazzle your loved ones and friends. Imagine an opera singer or violinist roaming up and down the aisle as your guests find their seats. Opera singer, church cantor, teacher and musician, Lauren Gisclair can not only help you select the pre-ceremony and ceremony music for your wedding, but also perform, or book other soloists and musicians. Lauren’s Voice Studio is truly a one-stop shop to set the mood while your guests arrive, the walk down the aisle, musical moments during your I do and as you make your way away from the nuptials with your newly betrothed. laurensvoicestudio.com
CEREMONY
This is the moment you’ve been waiting for and only the best, most elegant music will do for your I do. If operatic music isn’t your style, but you are still interested in a traditional take, Nola String Quartet could be the key. (nolaquartet.com) Two violinists, viola and cello meld to bring classical or popular music (think “Bridgerton” vibes) to your nuptials. Another
option is to contact the krewe at New Orleans Classical and Jazz. Book jazz, bluegrass, classical string, Cajun and zydeco bands, as well as DJs. neworleansclassicalandjazz.com
SECOND LINE
No New Orleans celebration is complete without a second line parade from the ceremony to the reception (or if both are in the same place, a march around the venue a few times). There is a lot more involved than just picking a brass band and hitting the streets. Enter Frenchmen Street Productions. Let the pros at Frenchmen book your band (as well as a grand marshal and Mardi Gras Indians, if you decide to go all out), work with the police on permitting, route planning and escorts, as well as coordinating on-site the day of the event. frenchmenstreetproductions.com
COCKTAIL RECEPTION
We’ve got nothing but love for a jazz trio, pianist or any number of choices for entertainment during the cocktail reception, but why not electrify your guests with an electric violin performance? There are several electric violin performers around town, but T-Ray the Violinist always catches our eyes and ears. You’ve likely seen him at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival or one of many local festivals and other public or private events playing everything from classical to pop. His stylings will be unforgettable for you and your guests. traytheviolinist.com
DINING
You can’t go wrong with a big band, playing New Orleans jazz standards and swing music while you and your guests nosh. But have you thought about the impact of an orchestra? Harlequin Chamber Music is composed of full-time orchestral and chamber musicians, most of whom are members of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. Classical, jazz standards, classic pop and rock and even show tunes are all on the menu. harlequinchambermusic.com
DANCING
It’s finally time to let your hair down and party. New Orleans has way too many party bands and DJs to fit in one article, so we’ll list just a few to get you started (and refer you again to entities like BE Collective, Magnolia Entertainment and Frenchmen Street Productions, to help you find and book). The Phunky Monkeys, New Orleans Players, Bag of Donuts and The Mixed Nuts are some of New Orleans’ favorites who will keep your friends and family on their feet. Whether you go with a DJ only or a band and a DJ, there are a ton to choose from in New Orleans. If you want someone to spin old-school style with nothing but vinyl however, look no further than DJ Ann Glaviano. Sample her work on the ones and twos before booking and get a date night out of it during Glaviano’s twicemonthly HEATWAVE Dance Party events around town. annglaviano.com
AFTERPARTY
It’s getting late, but you and your friends were born to boogie. Do so until the wee hours without upsetting the neighbors by switching to a silent disco. New Orleans Silent Disco will handle it all for you. Headsets with three channels to pick from, depending on what you want to listen to, offer disco divas a choice of beats while everyone else gets the sweet sounds of silence. Bonus: Spectators will get a laugh out of seeing people dancing to, well, nothing. Or so it seems. neworleanssilentdisco.com
FAREWELL BRUNCH
We can’t think of a better sendoff to your guests than chicken and waffles, omelets and oyster or pain perdu and whatever other brunch foods delight accompanied by the sweet sounds of a Gospel choir. The Jamalar Agency can book renowned groups such as the Spirit of New Orleans Gospel Choir and others on their roster. With a Gospel brunch capping off your wedding weekend, your family and friends, you and your new husband or wife will be nourished in body and soul. thejamalaragency.com b

TIGER SPOTTING
Forget the Taj Mahal. The highlight of your tour of India with peerless Micato Safaris will be a few days jeeping through Ranthambore National Park, a temple-laden nature reserve in the colorful state of Rajasthan, near Jaipur. You’ll base at Oberoi Vanyavilas Wildlife Resort, a five-star hotel,

Kilby releases its first collection of limited-edition silk pocket squares.
BY MISTY MILIOTO
Kilby, a locally based custom suiting atelier, has a new line of limited-edition silk pocket squares that are ideal for grooms and groomsmen. Handmade in a small studio in Italy, the pocket squares are 100% silk with hand-rolled edges. Designed in-house by Kilby’s team, with creative direction led by consultant and clothier Sonny Mitchell, these small, personal heirlooms add a touch of refinement to formalwear — all with a quiet nod to New Orleans history.
The debut collection, dubbed Carte Postale, features five vintage-inspired prints sourced from hand-colored lithograph postcards of New Orleans, circa early 20th century. The five designs — only 15 pocket squares are available in each design, $95 each — include Morning on Decatur (a
mid-1940s view of the original Café du Monde in the French Market), Torchlit Passage (an 1860s-era depiction of a steamboat navigating the bayou by firelight), Summer on Pontchartrain Beach (a 1940s postcard from the heyday of the city’s bygone lakeside amusement park), Rex on Canal (a 1907 Rex parade scene along Canal Street) and Above the Bend (a bird’s-eye map of New Orleans circa 1915, highlighting the Mississippi River’s iconic crescent around the city).
“Each square stands on its own as a small work of art, ideal for adding subtle color, personality or a sense of place to formalwear,” says Kristen Engelsen Collier, co-founder of Kilby. Available beginning May 1, exclusively at Kilby’s New Orleans showroom, 3955 Magazine St., kilbysuits.com. b
