Gibside celebrates its most famous female custodian through a contemporary art trail. To commemorate a year of Women and Power, there will be two temporary art installations in the gardens at Gibside celebrating Mary Eleanor Bowes (1749-1800), the Countess of Strathmore, and her passion for botany. The Orangery Urns feature inscribed extracts from contemporary 18th century texts into the surface of the clay. Fiona Curran has created an architectural folly placed in front of the Orangery which is modelled on a Wardian Case, a container used to transport plants and seeds by ship. The folly is filled with startling artificial brightly-coloured plants. www.nationaltrust.org.uk/gibside
