INTERCULTURAL CHAT

WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
It is a program to practice conversation in Spanish and English.

The participation of UDLA students is free and voluntary but with a high level of commitment.
International students usually participate in the framework of spanish classes at their home universities.
STEPS TO BE FOLLOWED
UDLA promotes this program among the entire student community.
A letter of commitment is sent to the partcipants and they are selected with a minimum of A2 english level.
The international university sends over the participants information.
Once the students have been assigned, the information is sent to the partner university and to the UDLA students.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Students schedule their connection times and days one week prior to the start of the program.
Students will log on for 1 hour per week for a period of 4 to 5 weeks.
The conversations will take 30 minutes in Spanish and 30 minutes in English with a free theme.
Students will be able to use any video calling platform (Skype, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meets, among others).
UDLA students will write a report on each conversation and foreign students will write an assignment for the Spanish class.
TOPICS TO BE DISCUSSED
International students usually have the themes established as part of their academic programming. UDLA students usually deal with topics such as culture, tourism, gastronomy, typical festivities of each country, academic subjects and other related subjects.
REMARKS
In case that international students have any problems with their assigned UDLA classmate, they should inform UDLA immediately in order to assign another student.
This program usually has a large enrollment base so there is always a back-up student to replace a student who shows any lack of commitment with his/her international partner.
