Women’s Leadership Program Inspires

Reinhardt President Dr. Kina S. Mallard introduced the Reinhardt Women’s Leadership Program this year with 10 freshmen being invited to join. Through the experience, they receive mentoring from older female students who are in leadership positions on campus, including SGA President Katie Purcell and Senior Marianella Lopez, who is the president of two campus clubs. “A women’s leadership program is something I have been wanting to do for a long time and the timing seemed right at Reinhardt,” Mallard said. “One of the things that any 18-year-old needs coming to college is confidence. Reinhardt does a great job in leadership development for both men and women, but this is an extra opportunity for young women to be exposed to successful women in a diversity of fields and to develop relationships with them.” Mallard feels that her role as a female president offered a great opportunity to lead a competitive scholarship leadership program for female students, and she has enlisted the help of some of the Southeast’s most successful women for an advisory board. “I got involved with the Women’s Leadership Program because I felt like it was a great opportunity to be 8 | REINHARDT | FALL 2016

n a day and age when women are leading corporations across the country, Reinhardt is doing its part in preparing young women to be their best selves and to use their Godgiven talents to be successful.

Two Reinhardt University Trustees, Sharon Bartels and Katherine Dunlop, are among the advisory board members from whom Cunningham and the nine other freshmen will learn. Bartels is retired from Gwinnett Technical College where she served as president, and Dunlop is the Director of National Sales for the Atlanta area for Coca-Cola. The RWLP is a competitive scholarship program designed to provide professional and career development for female students who have achieved at least a 3.75 high school GPA, 1000 SAT or 22 ACT, and have strong leadership experience and potential. The goal is to empower and equip young women to seek leadership positions in the workplace, church and community. Dunlop said she sees a great benefit in the program and having role models in
