From the Desk of Pastor Whitlock Greetings to all in the Name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Today, we celebrate our Annual Church Missionary Day. This year’s theme, “Con- tinuing to Advance the Kingdom Christian Mission and Service” is especially relevant as Reid Temple joins the global church in its work to restore hope and faith in the lives of its members and the larger community.

In the African Methodist Episcopal Church, the Women’s Missionary Society is our missions-focused entity with more than 135 years of service committed to winning souls for Christ and championing health, economic, peace and social justice issues. Through their work locally and globally, our church’s own Queen Jefferson Missionary Society embodies this mission and faithfully executes outreach activities on behalf of Reid Temple.

Please join Rev. Mia and I as we enjoy the day’s services, including our guest speakers, Reverend Chania Dillard and Rever- end Marissa Farrow, and engage in a church-wide renewal of our commitment to missions.

Reverend Chania L. Dillard Reverend Chania L. Dillard is a native of Baltimore, MD. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in Vocal Performance from Bowie State University. She has also earned a Master’s of Divinity Degree from Wesley Theological Seminary. Rev. Dillard is a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated.

Rev. Dillard currently serves as Youth Pastor and Minister to College Students at Greater Mt. Nebo AME Church, under the wonderful Pastoral leadership of Rev. Dr. Jonathan L. Weaver. She was elected in 2019 to serve as Journalist for the Richard Allen Young Adult Counsel (RAYAC). Rev. Dil- lard was graced with the opportunity to start a mentorship program via the adopt-a-school initiative for Prince George’s County Public Schools. She is truly an advocate for change and finds joy in help- ing scholars in the community to reach their greatest potential.

Rev. Dillard was ordained as an Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church (A.M.E.) on March 29, 2019. She is a gifted preacher who has been graced with the privilege of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ across the nation in various states, such as Long Beach California, Las Vegas, Nevada, Manassas, Virginia, and Baltimore, MD., just to name a few. She has also been blessed to preach beyond our nations’ boarders, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Rev. Dillard strongly believes that it is only by the grace and mercy of God that she has made it this far. She often says, “God didn’t bring me this far, to only bring me this far.” Rev. Dillard also holds fast to the promises in 1Corinthians 2:9, “...eyes have not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for them that love Him.” Rev. Dillard desires nothing more than to make an I MPACT in the world. Rev. Dillard lives by the statement: “I am absolutely noth- ing without God”.

Reverend Marissa R. Farrow Rev. Marissa R. Farrow, a Native of Baltimore MD, was born on June 19, 1989 to Bishop Robert E. Farrow and Evangelist Jacqueline Farrow, Pastors of Mt. Calvary Church & Ministries, where Ma- rissa had her beginnings in ministry. Marissa attributes her ministerial start to one “Good Friday Morning” when asked by her father to stand in for a pastor who was unable to make their annual Seven Last Words service. It was from that moment that at the age of 14, Marissa found herself stepping out of the backgrounds of ministry, to the forefront when she began speaking for diverse occasions in the city of Baltimore.

On March 4, 2007, Marissa began her public ministry by preaching her Initial Sermon at Mt. Cal- vary Church and Ministries; a sermon entitled “The Unshakable Call” from Jeremiah 4:1-9 and Psalms 27. In June of that same year, Marissa graduated with academic honors as well as military honors from Meade Sr. High School.

Upon graduating, she began matriculating as a Biology Pre-Med major at Delaware State University. In her pursuit of educational success she found herself on a 7 year journey to complete her degree, and in December of 2017 Marissa completed that journey and proudly holds a Bachelor’s Of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Entrepreneurship from Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC; where she also is a proud Spring 2015 initiate of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated. Marissa prays that her academic journey will empower young people everywhere to know that it’s never too late to do what you should have done!

In August of 2013, she was ordained in the Northeast Freewill Baptist Convention. Marissa has been privileged to sit under great leadership and glean from the teachings of her father, Bishop Robert E. Farrow, and currently serves as the Preaching Assistant and Minister to Young Adults at The Greater Allen AME Cathedral of New York, under the Pastoral leadership of Rev. Dr. Floyd & Elaine Flake and attributes much gratitude to many great leaders who have impacted her preaching ministry and her personal pursuit of living a life of integrity.

Since that time Marissa has been blessed to travel and preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. Reaching national platforms before the age of 30 years old bringing her to share for the international AIM Convention for the Church of God in Christ INC., The international Pastors and leaders conference for the Full Gospel Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop Joseph Walker, and the Woman Thou Art Loosed Master Class for Bishop T.D. Jakes at the Potters House of Dallas, TX. She has been blessed to minister live from The Word Network Studios in Detroit, Michigan and has also been featured in various written publications as a young leader in the church. One of her proudest accomplishments are her two published writings entitled Delivered From Dysfunction & The Amazing Weight. In the secular, she proudly serves as the Co-owner & Editor in Chief of IN The Magazine with Miss Ericka J. A black owned publication based in Baltimore MD. Marissa is on a kingdom move for God and will not stop until she pursues the purpose God has for her. She loves the Lord and de- sires to create a ministry that will break marketplace barriers. She is an advocate for youth, women, & leaders. Her greatest desire is to serve God and be an agent of change wherever she may go!

Litany Leader:

Whoever serves me must follow me: and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me. (John 12:26)

People:

Lord, we come to you today – offering you our hearts, our lives, our talents, and our gifts in your service.

Leader:

“This Service that we perform is not only supplying the needs of God’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God.” (2 Corinthians 9:12)

People:

We are grateful for the opportunity to serve you Lord – to help others and be doers of the Word and not hearers only.

Leader:

I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him or her. The greatest among you will be your servant.” (John 13:16, Matthew 23:11)

People:

Thanks to be to you, all-wise and loving God, for sending your son. We will follow your example of true service – for as Scripture says: “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve.” (Mark 10:45)

“Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.” (Romans 12:11, 13)

Lord, though we live in a selfish and self-centered world, we rededicate ourselves to living the life of a servant and to sharing our time, our gifts, our resources, and the message of your love those in need.

We serve not by trying to use our power but by allowing the Creator’s power to work within us for our good – and for the good of others. And we move forward – not on our own authority but in the name of our King, Jesus – the greatest servant of all.

Highlights of the Queen-Jefferson Women’s Missionary Society Projects (2019 and Ongoing) The Women’s Missionary Society of Reid Temple AME Church was established during the tenure of Reverend Kenneth White, the first Pastor of the Reid Temple AME Church (formerly Dent Chapel). After the 1st Annual Missionary Day Celebration in 1975, the Women’s Missionary Society was renamed the Queen - Jefferson Women’s Missionary Society (QJWMS) in honor of two founding members of the old Dent Chapel – Mrs. Bertha Jefferson and Mrs. Frances Queen.

The third Sunday in March has been designated as the Annual Missionary Day of the QueenJefferson Women’s Missionary Society.

The goals of the Queen-Jefferson Women’s Missionary Society are achieved through prayer, service, and witnessing. We now have more than 250 active members in our Society. Our programs coincide with the mission and vision of the Women’s Missionary Society (WMS) and NGO-United Nations’ Seventeen (17) Sustainable Development Goals. We operate under the auspices of the Connectional Women’s Missionary Society, an international service organization.

Some of our 2019-2020 accomplishments through our efforts in serving God’s people in need.

Provided volunteer support for Food and Friends for distribution to their terminally ill clients.

Provided volunteer support at Each One Feed One Community Food Pantry.

Partnered with Sisters4Sisters to collect handbags with toiletry items for Handbags of Hope across America, for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking.

In partnership with CLC Ministry, donated 250 mealtime inspiration kits for the Central Union Mission.

Hosted a Sewing Circle of Love Program to prepare no-sew blankets in partnership with Reid Temple’s Girl’s Scouts for distribution to homeless individuals in the D.C. metropolitan area.

Donated school supplies and coats to Reid Temple’s adopted schools, Springhill Lake and Magnolia Elementary.

Hosted our 4th annual Human Trafficking symposium, in partnership with the Prince Georges County Human Trafficking Task Force and Araminta Freedom Initiative raising trafficking awareness in Prince Georges County.

Supported Araminta’s Annual Christmas Party for their Human Trafficking program.

Donated toiletries to Courtney’s House residents.

Partnered with the Reid Temple communities for the annual Lupus Walk and donated of hats, scarves and gloves for homeless children.

Donated supplies to “I Support Girls,” an organization supporting homeless women.

Host Community Place Café, bi-monthly feeding program serving 30-48 persons, held at First United Methodist Church in Hyattsville, Maryland Hosted the Annual Thanksgiving Turkey giveaway, served the Church membership and Greenbelt community providing 1,100 turkeys to those in need.

Letters were written, in support of Bread for the World to engage elected officials in increasing funding for feeding and homeless programs.

Highlights of the Queen-Jefferson Women’s Missionary Society Projects (2019 and Ongoing) Offer monthly outreach worship services to institutionalized and convalescent Seniors at Genesis Fairland and Genesis Larkin Chase nursing home Operate a SHARE (Self Help and Resource Exchange) host site food program in partnership with the Prison ministry, that provides healthy groceries at a reduced cost to the community Participated in the Washington Conference Branch annual “Taking to the Streets” outreach evangelism, offered songs and prayers to the community Participated with the Young Lives Teen Mother program, to provide transportation assistance and donated Mother’s Day gift baskets.

Partnered with Prison Ministries worldwide “Angel Tree Project”, sponsored Christmas gifts for 10 Children of incarcerated parents Prepared sandwiches for the only male shelter, “PG House” in Prince Georges County, Maryland.

Partnered with the CLC Ministry to provide volunteer support for Capital Area Food Bank’s Community Marketplace.

Provided volunteer support for the DC Diaper Bank.

Donated gift cards to Courtney’s House human trafficking program for Christmas.

Donated brownbag lunches and collected soap for Central Union Mission.

Provide financial resources for church members experiencing hardships.

Donated “New Mother Kits” for mothers in Haiti.

Support homebound Missionaries, through the “We Care Program” by providing home visits, reassuring phone calls and monthly correspondences Provide volunteer support at Each One, Feed One’s Food Pantry.
