Case Study “National Road to Rio Campaign” case study This campaign was initiated to spread environmental activism among the Sri Lankan youth. The campaign consisted of many youth workshops, awareness projects, supplying content to media entities, and coordinating with other organizations with mutual interests. Our campaign was the only youth driven campaign for the Rio+20 conference ( The biggest environmental conference of the history of the United Nations) in the world.

The outcomes of the campaign“We formed the official youth position paper of Sri Lanka together with the United Nations, which was presented by the Sri Lankan government to the global arena. This policy paper was discussed in Rio+20 along with other world leaders” ”We joint hands with partners such as the United Nations Volunteers (UNV), National Youth Services Council (NYSC), Weeramantry International Centre for Peace Education and Research(WICPER), Academy Of Design (AOD), Earth Lanka, Colombo Model United Nations (COMUN) and the Sri Lanka Model United Nations (SLMUN)” “This campaign attracted international attention and positioned Sri Lanka as the youth leader in the 'Road to Rio' process. Our campaign was praised by the United Nations, environmental communities and inspired many other youth groups around the world” “We made this campaign sustainable by forming the first ever environmental symposium in coordination with the United Nations. This club is named as 'Youth for Greener Sri Lanka' (YGSL) This club has successfully completed 3 mega youth campaigns and continues to spread youth activism and action based projects” “Over 85 newspaper articles/ 20 television briefings/ radio and social media promotions were carried out by this initiative” “Many youth in Sri Lanka engaged in environmental activism and joined the 'Youth for Greener Sri Lanka" community. We currently have 28 fully committed members all around Sri Lanka” “Many new environmental clubs in schools were formed to raise awareness and to carry out action based projects” (Many other case studies could be presented on request )
