This project seeks to act as an addition while respecting the original building by keeping its shape and history intact while updating the facade with a fresh, modern look. The design helps shed light on the approach of creating a connection between the old and the new, showing that change can enhance what already exists. Made with modern materials like glass or steel, the new structure stands out but also fits in, giving the building a new life, helping promote the idea that not everything old needs to be torn down to bring it back to life. This strategy strengthens the connection between the building and its surrounding context, making it more open and inviting for the community.

The project brief centers on erecting a mixed-use mid-rise residential building. The proposed design adheres to local zoning regulations and uses these setbacks to help in the creation of its form.
The building’s architecture is distinctive, integrating its red aluminum panel facade with railings for the units, and the change in the angular plane in its facade to allow for better lighting and views. The red complements the surrounding predominantly red-brick housing, symbolizing an ideal for affordable housing with spacious units and simplistic internal circulation in its floor plans.

This multipurpose library was designed with a focus on its site and integration into the community that surrounds it. The form follows its surrounding context bridging the building next to it and following its flow across the street. Furthermore, the setbacks around its various elevations help connect the green spaces around the site and provides inclusion of additional programming.

The design’s overall form aims to create an efficient and compact space while ensuring unique and well-designed living areas for the tenants within a 25 m² limit. Openings are strategically planned to allow natural light to enter from various angles throughout the day. Additionally, a sliding back door lets a projector light shine onto the exterior partition wall, creating a home theater experience. The house features varying elevations on the interior, starting with the mudroom, which has two steps leading up to the main floor, and finishing on the mezzanine level for the bedroom.
