We know the curriculum’s solid Biblical foundation will make it transformational.

Coming up with a comprehensive plan to teach the Bible systematically and completely is not easy. We did the heavy lifting to build the plan so you can use it to focus on communicating God’s Word and strengthening the kids under your care. The STRONG Kids comprehensive curriculum plan means you can share God’s Word with confidence.

We built the STRONG Kids scope and sequence on the seven teaching aims Jesus had during His earthly ministry. Identifying Jesus’ aims helps you teach the Bible with purpose and clear goals in sight. Every lesson in the STRONG Kids scope and sequence addresses at least one of Jesus’ teaching aims.

JESUS’ TEACHING AIMS Believe the gospel. Jesus taught His students to understand, believe, and then share the gospel.

This aim is obviously fundamental to all the rest.

Understand Biblical ethics. Jesus instructed His students to live according to moral values.

These values provided them with the tools to make wise decisions.

Internalize godliness. Jesus taught His followers to be godly on the inside. He warned them not to become like Pharisees, with a mere outward appearance of godliness.

Learn doctrine. Jesus knew the importance of teaching His students the truth and identified doctrine as one of the means for spiritual growth.

Wishy-washy doctrine leads to faulty practice.

Develop life skills. Jesus taught His followers to meet life’s challenges in a way that honored and glorified God. He gave them the skills to navigate those challenges successfully.

Uplift others. Jesus’ life was all about others.

Leading by example, He taught His followers to be all about others too.

Prepare to serve. Jesus prepared His followers to serve in the context of local churches that were established soon after His ascension. He emphasized sacrifice and dedication.

Whole-Bible Emphasis Each STRONG Kids age group has a special emphasis that contributes to the overall purpose of spiritually strengthening kids. Why? First, there are far too many crucial lessons in the Bible to have all five children’s age groups covering the same Bible passage on the same Sunday. Too many of those important lessons would be left untaught. Second, the age groups’ needs are too varied to force them to cover the exact same scope and sequence every curriculum cycle.

Smooth Transitions STRONG Kids for primary, middler, and junior age groups all track along a similar chronological path through the Bible. By design, all three age groups end year 1 with Judges and year 2 with Revelation. This provides continuity as the students move from one age group to the next, and gives them three opportunities to work through the Bible over a six-year span.

Growth You Can Measure How do you know if STRONG Kids curriculum is working? You measure your students against the Bible’s standard for spiritual maturity. STRONG Kids provides measuring tools that point out your kids’ areas of strengths and weaknesses. The curriculum also gives supplemental ideas for reinforcing the seven teaching aims so you can strengthen areas of weakness.

The measuring tools make spirituality practical.

They describe what it looks likes to live out Christ’s seven aims. The measuring tools provide a natural connection between the classroom and the home. Parents understand the changes and growth they should be seeing and encouraging in their children’s lives.

Results That Last Forever Heaven is an important emphasis in STRONG Kids curriculum. The primary, middler, and junior age groups in particular learn how the decisions they make today will affect them for eternity. The curriculum directs them to live in light of eternity by living for God rather than for themselves. It gives their lives meaning now so they might count for something in eternity.

In eternity, all believers will want nothing more than to glorify God. How kids live now will determine their capacity to glorify God forever in Heaven.

STEPS TO BUILDING STRONG KIDS STRONG Kids provides each age group with the age-appropriate plan to prepare kids to successfully take the next step in their spiritual growth. The lessons for all five age groups form five steps for building spiritually strong kids.

Building Step 1 STRONG Kids for 2s and 3s teaches Biblical truth concerning God, God’s Son, God’s Word, and God’s world.

Students learn that God is their creator and that He loves and helps them. They begin to understand what sin is and that Jesus came to earth as a baby and then grew up and died for them. This two-year curriculum prepares twos and threes to understand the gospel.

Building Step 2 STRONG Kids for Pre-Primaries reinforces foundational Biblical truths concerning creation, Jesus, salvation, and living for God. This two-year curriculum recognizes that pre-primaries are starting to understand the need for personal salvation and provides opportunities for students to trust in Christ as their Savior and then begin to live for Him. Building Step 3 STRONG Kids for Primaries tracks through the Bible chronologically but breaks at times to provide students with a deep understanding of Jesus and His part in God’s plan to save the world. Students grasp Who Jesus is, what He is like, and why He came to earth.

Building Step 4 STRONG Kids for Middlers teaches students the Bible timeline. It is chronological from beginning to end so students understand how God’s plan unfolded in the past, what His plan is for today, and how His plan will unfold in the future. Students grasp the Bible’s story and confidently place themselves in the middle of God’s plan.

Building Step 5 STRONG Kids for Juniors goes deeper in order to ground students in their faith before they move into their teen years. The overall track is through the Bible, but with different emphases than in the Primary and Middler age groups. For instance, students spend more time on the Ten Commandments, David’s writings in Psalms, Solomon’s wisdom in Proverbs, spiritual life applications from the Epistles, and end-time events from Revelation.

David Gunn Named Director of RBP In September Regular Baptist Ministries announced the appointment of David Gunn as director of Regular Baptist Press. Gunn had joined the RBP staff in 2014 as editorial director of publications and managing editor of the Baptist Bulletin. He comes to his new position well equipped to lead the press.

Renaissance Man

RENAISSANCE MAN

A renaissance man has “acquired profound knowledge or proficiency in more than one field,” a description that fits David well. He graduated summa cum laude from Shasta Bible College with a BA in Bible and theology. In addition to an MDiv from Corban University School of Ministry, he holds a ThM in theology and church history from Liberty University Baptist Theological Seminary.

Currently he is a doctoral candidate at Baptist Bible Seminary.

David was ordained for the gospel ministry in 2011 by Grace Baptist Church, Redding, California. Blessed with musical abilities, he served as a minister of music in several Baptist churches prior to his tenure with RBP. As a teacher, David has taught in his local church and in Pennsylvania public schools as a substitute. He is adjunct professor of apologetics courses at Clarks Summit University and Bible and theology courses at Shasta Bible 8

College and Graduate School. David also speaks at Regular Baptist Ministries’ Stronger Church conferences, in GARBC conference workshops, and online via the Regular Baptist Web Community.

David wrote “Overview of New Covenant Passages, Ostensible and Actual” in An Introduction to the New Covenant, edited by Christopher Cone (Tyndale Seminary Press, 2013) and “Understanding Islam, Reaching Muslims” in RBP’s adult Bible study Current Culture: A Biblical Understanding and Response. He writes often for the Baptist Bulletin. His writing is insightful, clear, and cogent, as well as Biblical.

PASSION

A self-proclaimed theology junkie, David has immersed himself in theology: studying it, teaching it, presenting it, and writing about it. He was a student member of the Evangelical Theological Society and is a member of the Council on Dispensational Hermeneutics. Along with theology, David is passionate about apologetics and engaging culture from a Biblical worldview. His passion has translated into articles in both the digital and print editions of the Baptist Bulletin and in the social commentary section of www.GARBC.org. David is a founding member of the 1024 Project, a collaboration of Christian leaders and thinkers who “stir up one another to love and good works” (Heb. 10:24, ESV) by providing encouraging and edifying resources on issues that affect believers both individually and corporately. J

O N ITA BASERVANT LEADERSHIP John Greening, who leads Regular Baptist Ministries, officially installed Gunn to his new position during a September chapel service at the Regular Baptist Ministries Resource Center in Arlington Heights, Illinois. Greening, explaining that he has a list of projects he hopes to accomplish before he retires, shared that finding a new director of RBP to ensure its ongoing stability was one of those projects.

Greening sought input from a group of trusted advisors and then started looking for a new director. After a rigorous vetting process and considerable prayer, Gunn was appointed. “We have all come to respect David for his scholarship, work ethic, technical skills, multitasking, commitment to the Word, and his competency in communication,” Greening told the staff. “We have also recognized he is a team player with a godly manner. And the icing on the cake, he even has a sense of humor.”

After his appointment, David spoke to the staff on Biblical servant leadership, something the staff had already seen him demonstrate as an editorial director and managing editor. Throughout human history, says David, the standard approach to leadership has tended to be heavy-handed, self-serving, domineering, and authoritarian. Jesus repudiated this approach in no uncertain terms: “It shall not be so among you,” He said. “But whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant” (Matt. 20:26). I’m convinced, both by this passage and by Christ’s example, that the only approach to organizational leadership Christians should ever even consider is servant leadership. This is especially true in Christian ministry. Leaders in churches and parachurch organizations should never be motivated by a desire to see their own visions and agendas implemented; rather, they should constantly be asking themselves, How can I lead in such a way that I maximally serve the Lord, the church, and the world around me?

In his role as director of RBP, David is responsible for providing administrative oversight, charting a course for the future, ensuring fidelity to RBP’s doctrinal distinctives (see side column), and representing the ministry to churches and parachurch organizations. David points out that publishing ministries and Christian education ministries are a dime a dozen. But, he says, RBP’s settled and unswerving commitment to the glory and majesty of Jesus Christ, the supreme authority of the Scriptures, and the centrality of the local church is what sets it apart.

“We don’t want to be viewed merely a resource provider or a team of content specialists; rather, we want local churches to see us as a ministry partner who will come alongside them and, with uncompromising allegiance and deference to the Word of God, help them guide their church family toward greater spiritual maturity, to the glory and honor of Christ. That’s the kind of Christian education ministry that gets my blood flowing, and by God’s grace it’s the kind of Christian education ministry that I’m privileged to be part of.”

Living Large: Reaching Your Potential in Christ (Philippians) This verse-by-verse study of the book of Philippians encourages senior high students to live Christ-centered lives that produce fruit such as joy and unity. The book of Philippians will help them understand and reach their potential in Christ.

Senior high students will learn that Romans is much more than a trail of verses that present the gospel. They will learn that Romans teaches about God’s grace, which opens the door for them to be right with God in their thinking and living.

Training for Life (1, 2 Timothy; Titus) As students study the letters Paul wrote to Timothy and Titus, they will learn how to use God’s Word in becoming like Christ and fleeing temptation. Students will be given opportunities to practice the truths they learn about godly living so they will be ready to handle difficult life situations.

Outfitted for Life’s Choices

Recognizing that the Bible warns against false teaching and presents Jesus Christ as the only way to God, this course helps students understand the cults and false religions in our world today.

Baptist Identity Students will learn foundational Baptist beliefs, including eternal security, baptism, Communion, church polity, and the priesthood of the believer.

Choosing to be selfless, loyal, devoted, and unashamed of Christ is emphasized as teens study Bible characters such as Ruth, Jonathan, Mary, Martha, and Joseph of Arimathea.

Living Beyond Tomorrow: God’s Plans for the Future This study of “last things” gives an overview of Biblical prophecy and then looks in detail at events from the Rapture to the Great White Throne Judgment. The course will challenge your students to look beyond tomorrow and live in the light of eternity instead.

God Speaks on Big Issues This course examines what God’s Word has to say about today’s issues, such as war, homosexuality, postmodernism, substance abuse, the media, and suicide.

Church through the Ages: Staying True to God’s Way Bible Passages: Various Scripture Passages Course Description: This course presents the church from both a historical and a doctrinal perspective. The emphasis is on the importance of following God’s instructions and truth for the church. The learner is encouraged to be faithful to God’s doctrine and practice for the church and to learn from both good and bad examples from church history.

Truth for Living Book Study Electives Genesis: God’s Plan Begins This study surveys the book of Genesis. The special focus is on God and His plan of creation and redemption. Learners will take away meaningful applications from the study, and they will grow in their understanding of God’s dealings with people such as Adam, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph.

This course follows God’s introduction of Himself to Moses and to Israel as they learned to follow and trust Him as their God. The lessons especially focus on why and how God made Himself known.

Victorious: Trusting Our Faithful God (Joshua)

Failing People, Faithful God (Judges and Ruth)

Presents God’s faithfulness to His people as they conquered the Promised Land. God proved trustworthy and loyal even though His people often fell short in their devotion to Him. Learners will understand the victories and blessings that come from learning to trust and obey God completely.

This course covers some of the darkest days of Israel’s history when every man did what was right in his own eyes. Yet against that backdrop is the light of God’s faithfulness. He used specially appointed and empowered men and women to rescue His people from the fruit of their own rebellion.

Jesus: Three Portraits, One Story (Matthew, Mark, Luke)

Reasons to Believe: Evidence Jesus Is God’s Son (John)

This course follows the accounts of Jesus as presented by Matthew, Mark, and Luke. It focuses on Jesus’ identity, ministry, and mission, with special emphasis on how each writer presented Jesus to communicate particular truths about Him.

John wrote his Gospel so we can know that Jesus is the Son of God and so we might have eternal life through Christ. This course presents John’s arguments for the deity of Christ and challenges learners to consider how Jesus’ identity should impact their lives.

The Word Spreads (Acts)

180°: God’s Saving & Transforming Grace (Romans)

The book of Acts traces the spread of the gospel to the Gentiles in particular. This course emphasizes that unstoppable growth is orchestrated and empowered by the Holy Spirit. The learner will be challenged to recognize and participate in the continuing spread of the gospel today.

Who I AM: God’s Self-Revelation (Exodus—Deuteronomy)

Learners encounter foundational truths concerning the law, grace, and the gospel as outlined by the apostle Paul in Romans. The course develops the Biblical reality that both God’s condemnation of mankind and His provision of salvation are rooted in absolute truth.

Life Design Electives Lyrics for Life: Selected Psalms Big Lessons on Life: Learning to Trust God, Job This course encourages learners to trust in God when life becomes hard or confusing. Job experienced extreme tragedies and suffering but learned that God is absolutely trustworthy.

Learners will learn to trust God no matter what happens to them in life.

Our God Reigns: Daniel Our God Reigns challenges learners to trust our sovereign God. This study presents the book of Daniel with an emphasis on God’s control both in the lives of specific kings and in the course of history. Learners will come away from this course with a deep trust in their God.

Presents psalms that provide insight on subjects such as true happiness, God’s provision, confession of sin, and praising God. These 13 ancient songs will challenge learners to get in step with what God has to say about their lives.

Responding to God’s Faithful Intervention, Parts 1 and 2 These studies on the Minor Prophets help learners understand God’s faithfulness to His people Israel as seen in His intervention in their lives. God remained true to His promises and warnings to His people.

Rejoice!: Philippians

Staying on Course: 1, 2 Thessalonians

This course challenges believers to become like Christ in His humility and obedience. As they grow to be like Christ, they will realize the joy of Christ in their lives. This joy will sustain them through trials and will draw them closer to one another.

Through a verse-by-verse study of 1 and 2 Thessalonians, learners will be challenged to stay on course by living godly lives in light of Christ’s return. God has more work yet to do in and through believers. This course will help learners maximize their usefulness for the Lord.

Genuine Faith: James

Living in Hostile Territory: 1 Peter
