While Ind. 56 between Aurora and Rising Sun is slated to be closed for only 14 hours Monday, July 21, Thuermer Hollow Road will remain closed at its intersection with Ind. 56 until the realignment project is completed. INDOT’s contractor J.R. Jurgenson, Cincinnati, will shut down Ind. 56 from 7 p.m. July 21 until 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 22. Representatives from Jurgensen and INDOT met with Rising Sun city officials, Ohio County officials, as well as business and Rising Star casino representatives Friday, July 18, to discuss the closure. Wedges on new pavement around the construction zone will be put in during the overnight closure, and when the road reopens it will be on new pavement, said Jurgensen

Rising Sun’s year long 200th birthday celebration continued last weekend with the first annual Splash In on the Ohio River. Above: Mac’s Seaplanes of Rising Sun hosted the event which included eight seaplanes. The new boat dock at Plum and Front streets served as the launching point. At left: One of the planes splashes down. Below: Visitors were given a chance to view the planes and learn about the history.
