Kendrick fills new grant writer position Mayor Branden Roeder has hired Rising Sun resident Bryce Kendrick as the city’s marketing director and grant writer. The new position is within the city budget for a position originally titled Deputy Mayor, Roeder said. Rising Sun City Council approved a salary ordinance amendment to change the position to a marketing director and grant writer. The 30 hour per week position paying approximately $25,000 a year. “I feel that the position will pay for itself each year with the possible grants that are found,” Roeder said. He pointed to a $1.4 million transportation enhancement grant awarded to the city last year to upgrade the riverfront. That grant funds 80 percent of a project to add bike and pedestrian facilities in the historic downtown district and along the

Rising Sun has spent time and money investing in developing its riverfront and that effort made it the ideal site for the running of the Roar of Thunder Regatta on Saturday and Sunday. Crowds lined up along the Ohio River shore to watch the power boat racing. Rising Sun has history with boat racing as the Hoosier Boy set the speed racing record in its day.
